Love it. There was a polish delicatessen within walking distance of where I used to live that had the best rye breads. Great smoked selection and sausages as well.

My wife is German so we often have sourdough Mischbrot for our open faced sandwiches.
Rye is a difficult flour (and dense) to work with, so grease up your hands before you knead it. Fun fact: you can use a paste of rye flour and water as mortar for building a brick wall.

Is Jewish rye a specific kind? my grandma would always specify Jewish rye when she got it.

>> No.17503577

My, my, it's a dark loaf of rye.
Put some slices in the toaster til the toast bounces high.
Caramel or molasses are added for dye, saying
In pumpernickel, wheat says goodbye.

Hated it as a child, but prefer it over white bread nowadays.
You can actually make various simple deserts with it, for example:
>cut or break bread into crumbs
>mix with sugar, myb some cinnamon/vanilla/whatever of that kind
>bake it in the oven or on your pan so that the sugar melts and bread crisps
>have your own superiour breakfast cereal
