My mother insisted we installed a dish washer in the early 90's. It was a huge cause of arguments because my father was basically like ... anybody who is too bone idle to do a few dishes while I work 60 hours a week to keep a roof over their heads is a real piece of shit while while death staring her. She was basically like ... anybody who thinks I have to time to act like his perfect god damn mother and wife while raising two children is a piece of shit while death staring him. They broke up shortly afterwards and to be fair, my mother was a lazy piece of shit unable to handle raising children and keeping house without endless booze, holidays, spending sprees and naps because she didn't want either of us so my father had the job and the kids. We never used that fucking dish washer either, we were forced to wash and dry dishes from that point on.

I was team no dish washer for the next 30 years. I believed the same thing, anybody who is too lazy to wash a few dishes needs a kick up the ass and a better work ethic not a dish washer.

Reasons why I now love the dish washer ...

- it cleans way fucking better than hand
- it is a place to store dirty dishes instead of the counter
- the counter is free for projects/my kids to use instead of a collection of sharp and pointy shit
- no more disputes about who is doing the dishes, who is doing them badly etc
- the glass and steel comes out perfect

No retard, the idea behind the design is that if you fill the dishwasher with hot water in the first place it's more energy efficient than heating cold water in the machine at the start of the cycle because the resistive heating element in the dishwasher is about the least energy efficient way of heating water in existence short of screaming and farting at the dishwasher until the water heats up. The machine still has a heating element that's used to heat the water throughout the wash cycle as needed and for heated drying, but if you can start the cycle with already hot water it reduces the amount you need to rely on the shitty heating element. Of course there flaw in this design is that most houses don't have recirculating pumps to ensure that the water that comes out of the hot line at the point of use is always hot immediately so if you don't run the hot water at the sink first you still dump cold water into the machine during the initial fill defeating the purpose of designing it that way, but that just means it's exactly the same as running a machine tapped into the cold water line anyway.

Anyway why do you care? It's a bad look to seethe about the fact that the average American household has a dishwasher while houses in your shithole country have no room for them because your retrofitted mini clothes washing machine takes up the only available 3sqft in the kitchen where the family toilet used to be before you moved it into the old combination coat closet/guest room under the stairs.

>Source: my ass

Improvements to dishwashers in recent years have been focused primarily on designing the mechanisms inside in such a way that they effectively clean dishes with as little water and energy as possible which really just comes down to shit like placement of the sprayers, pump design, how the racks hold the dishes, etc. I don't know what sensors you think they're cramming into them that somehow make them worse at cleaning dishes, the only sensors you'll find in pretty much any dishwasher are a float switch to detect how much water is in the machine and a temp sensor to control when to turn on the heating element.

I had a dishwasher my whole life until the last year. Now I realize they're pointless unless you're an absolute germaphobe that needs their plates and glasses steamed.

Different soaps are different. GENERALLY, you want to avoid using the liquid/gel style soaps in dishwashers, as they will leave soap buildup/scum in the drainage system of your machine much more quickly than dry/powder based soaps, as long as your kitchen gets really hot water. If the water js cold-hot you're fucked regardless.

>Dish sanitizers
Please. They don't wash dishes, you are supposed to do that in the sink. They will however sanitize them for you.

it's not when dishwashers were invented it's what time period a housewife that washed her own dishes lived. the idea of a woman with children being a housewife that washed her own dishes really didn't come around until the 20th century. any woman well off enough to be considered a "housewife" in the 19th century (and before) would have staff to wash the dishes... a normal chick with kids that had to wash her dishes, would be poor and working aka not a housewife.
