Don't eat sushi in Japan. That's literally all you have to do. American food safety laws require sushi fish to be flash frozen to kill parasites. You're nearly as safe as if you cooked it. Besides, there's hundreds of other things you could eat that are great.

some of this stuff looks really good, but plates like >>17339372 i just cant get behind, i dont understand the appeal of just pieces of hacked up raw seafood with essentially no seasoning, i guess youre supposed to dip in the sauce there but still. ive had some ceviche that i thought was alright, but this is so barebones i mean raw fish just isnt that nuanced of a thing in my book, it makes me wonder if people like this just because its 'cool', from a culinary perspective is this really a flavorful type of meal because its starting to feel like the meal equivalent of that post modern art where a guy just duct taped a banana to a wall in an art gallery

It's for people whose apartments are so small that they don't have reliable means of cooking their own food but don't want to eat from konbini. Also a lot of traditional Japanese homes are super-susceptible to burning to the ground so it became a tradition for them to cook somewhere else.
