If you ever buy fresh Brussels sprouts at the grocery store, soak them in a mixture of about one tablespoon bleach to one gallon water. Allow to soak for 35 to 45 minutes. You will be absolutely disgusted by what you see. Remember, most people eat that.

I take it you are referring to bugs? If so then you can usually tell which ones they have got at. Cabbage white catterpilars tend to eat through them and you can usually tell by the holes and their faeces. Simply cut away the outside leaves and use a small knife to poke and scoop out the affected area. I also cut sprouts in half to aid even cooking.
There's absoloutely no need to resort to any extreme measures. The bugs are edible anyway, but their faeces and deteriation to the affected area make the sprouts more bitter.

It would be interesting to see. I wouldn't eat them unless you really clean them out, but bleach is used in kitchens and is used in food processing, just really diluted.
