A lot of people would refuse to eat cows or chickens if they had to slaughter it themselves.

I've caught and cooked plenty of crab and at first I would stab the two large nerve centers and that definitely seemed to do the trick but it still involved some mucking around and handling the creature before its death. I know people that just split them in half on an edge or with a knife but I'm not really into that.

I now toss them in boiling water. To be honest I think they die faster than people realize and while it would not be a good death I wonder if it is still less stressful than handling them. One of these days I'm going to start cracking them in half and ripping their insides out because that seems quick but probably not instantaneous either.
