In-N-Out burger tastes like dog vomit, only Texans love that shit.

>> No.17157063

>>17156633
Actually most Texans are very disappointed with it. We had all of these California transplants come in a tell us that they had the greatest burger chain ever created back in Cali and we just didn't understand. Then In-N-Out came to Texas. They did a huge launch of several locations all on the same day. Lines wrapped around buildings and spilling out into the street, because we were told it was the greatest burger chain to have ever existed.

And then we got a taste...of massive disappointment. Extremely limited menu. Hidden menu that was never advertised, nor had the same ground game as back in California. Okay shakes. Subpar burgers. THE ABSOLUTE WORST FRIES IN ALL OF FASTFOOD EXISTENCE.

In-N-Out is barely anything outside of it's hype. When it came to Texas, they were hoping the transplants would keep carrying the company, but they were wrong. The native Texas business dried up quickly, and the former Californians got a taste of real burgers in the land of beef.

Nowadays you can pass by an In-N-Out in DFW with 1 or 2 cars in the drive-thru during the lunch rush while every other restaurant has a minimum of 5. Whataburger and McDonald's usually have a minimum of 7 cars. Hell, Sonic beats In-N-Out in our state.

>tl;dr native Texans don't care for In-N-Out because we have much better options

>> No.17157185

I'm a native Californian and In-N-Out is definitely overrated. What it does have is high consistency, (relatively) professional and well-paid employees, and great prices.
I think they always have some trouble because most people I know make a fair number of alterations to their order, and a lot of first-timers don't realize the extent to which this is possible. This is referenced by this guy as well: >>17157063
Here is a generic order someone might try (the menu there is very small):
- Double double (two patties, two cheese slices)
- Fries
- Chocolate shake
Here is my actual last order from the last time I went:
- Double double with extra toasted buns and onions
- Fries, well done
- Shake, half chocolate and half strawberry
If you don't get toasted buns, the buns might be soggy from the sauce. If you don't get the fries well done, they are overly soft.
Some of my friends ordered things that are blatantly not on the menu, like yellow peppers on the side, "animal style" fries (look it up), and a "protein style" burger (lettuce leaves instead of buns).
Other places are better (and have onion rings on the menu), but In-N-Out has an extremely devoted fanbase, and the food is thankfully cheap. I'm definitely kind of sick of it, because it's sort of a tradition in CA to stop at one on roadtrips - even though there are tons of restaurants and mom-and-pop places we could try for the sake of novelty instead.

Both of them are served well done by default, so both of them are by default shitty fast food. The difference is that Five Guys is 3 times the price of In-N-Out, which makes the latter the superior option. What he's not telling you is that CA is the most hated state *among Republican-dominated states of the USA*. For all other populations, CA is the most beloved state.
They don't like it, in part, because it's one of the more progressive / "liberal" states, its policies are often adopted by other states, and because of its high population it has significant political clout in national concerns.
>>17157457
>housing prices
It's high because demand is high. I'm even voluntarily choosing to move out of CA because of this exact reason, and even I don't feel about it. It's one of the most perfect areas on the planet for human beings, and the cost to live there should reflect it. Building double the housing and squeezing another 40 million people into it is a less preferable solution.
>crime is rampant
Agreed, but this is largely a side effect of our high population. Most densely populated areas in the US have high crime.
>homelessness is rampant
Yeah, because of the high housing and the fact that homeless people can sleep on the street here year-round without freezing or burning to death. This is admittedly a huge fuck-up, but it doesn't significantly mar the state as a whole.
>politicians are so retarded
The vast majority of politicians anywhere on the planet are retarded.
>stealing water
Technically, they sold it over to us. We do squander the water we take though, especially the southern half of the state.
>the worst human being on the planet are Californians
I think you'll find that pretty much any international survey would show you nearly the opposite. Californians are the most beloved Americans.

To be fair, though, the Central Valley of California produces almost the entirety of the nation's output for quite a number of agricultural products. If you look at raw water consumption, making food is a pretty decent reason to use it, at least on the surface.
Urban water use could be more careful, again, especially in the southern half of the state, but I don't know how much that is relative to agriculture.

This is a very accurate post. The entirety of the media perception of CA is based on ~10% of the land area, if even. Even living in San Francisco, where the average person is vehemently anti-gun, you can drive no more than an hour away and see billboards by the highway advertising gunshows. I also know plenty of people even within the Bay Area (myself included) that dislike a significant portion of the state's policies. We're just outnumbered in these areas (I'm not sure what political label is most accurate for them), so we don't impact any elections significantly and we don't raise our voices much because we are outnumbered 10:1 and there's never been a time in history where being the vast minority somewhere doesn't put you at legitimate risk, racial/political/national or otherwise.

First tried Vegas, worst one, by a long shot, then Utah opened some, and they started out fucking terrible, then after a few years ironed things out, but still seems to be missing that "thing" that makes it really good. Colorado was fucking retarded and the staff had no idea what they were doing, and the food was mediocre. Arizona was probably the closest one to California. Any random location in bumfuck nowhere California will be better than their out of state ones. Like, I was in Victorville and Hemet and they absolutely hit all the right notes.

>2 double doubles

>2 drinks
At five guys
>1 regular burger
>1 regular fry
>maybe a drink in a tax free state
You shouldn't even compare these two places, in n out is fast food, five guys isn't, and even if they were comparable, in n out wins every single time. You get a better meal for your money.

The high real estate prices aren't due to "socialist policies", you schizos. If anything, the socialists are the ones pushing for reduced zoning regulations and for creating incentives for high-density housing (you know... like those large residential complexes in ex-Soviet territories everyone loves so much?). It's pretty obvious that housing supply restrictions are only adored by 1) land development corporations, and 2) the wealthy, who want to rent properties and do whatever they can to ensure that no non-wealthy individuals can leave near them.
Also, BLM can suck my dick.
>>17163710
I don't think your friend is right. San Diego operates the largest desalination plant in the United States, and I haven't heard anything about them closing it down. We still have an operating nuclear plant, although people are iffy about creating new ones because the state is expecting a colossal earthquake at, literally, any time.

i used to think this, but five guys seems to have really fallen off. i'm not from cali so i have no nostalgia for innout, but i'm at a point in my life where i'd rather have a small burger quickly than wait for a five guys burger that isn't that much better for double the price. i guess if i was at a catered event that had both five guys and innout burgers next to each other i'd get the five guys, but if i'm paying i'd rather just do innout

five guys' cajun fries blow innouts fries out of the water though

texan here, you describe it perfectly. the californians way overhyped it, the main appeal is that its decent for its price, not that it's actually that great (which is not a factor unless you're a miser or a single mother of 8)

some people see this ultra customization shit as a big plus, but it's kind of a turn off for me. i don't want to have to tell the cashier a bunch of extra bullshit to fix the burger like a woman ordering a latte the specific way she wants. either change the default to be actually good or do like every other restaurant and give a number to a bunch of recommended configurations so i can just say "i'll have a number 6" instead of "i'll have the mc big boy, animal style, with extra dildos up its ass"

But anon, people like different things. If the buns were extra toasted by default, there would be people asking them to prepare their burger with especially untoasted buns. You can always just use the defaults now if expressing a preference toward something feels feminine to you. At least you have the option at In-N-Out, if I asked someone at another place to fry my fries a little longer, I don't know if they would bother to do so, since they probably aren't set up to do it as easily.
