freezing them in a container of water is a more humane way of killing crustaceans, puts them to sleep extremely quickly. doesn't impact the flavour of texture of the meat so long as you dont store it more than 3 or 4 days

I'm aware, but clubbing an animal's head isn't always effective, nor does bolting always instantly kill. Slitting the throat properly leads to braindeath in seconds. I hope you go inspect wherever you get your meats from because I'm more than certain they aren't anesthetizing the animal prior to killing them. When an animal's throat is slit quickly, cleanly, and deeply with blood allowed to escape the animal very quickly as well (hence the hoisting of them) the animal then goes unconscious
To someone 4000 years ago this looks like "oh this is painless, see how they just go to sleep?" (Also from this time it might make sense to boil horse piss to see if you can make gold since they are both a yellowish color)
