how bad does a waiter have to fuck up for you to not tip?

If they’re a dick to me or give exceptionally poor service I won’t tip. Happens about once every two years for me. The best was I was at this fancy bar and racked up a big bill and put the cash in one of those little booklets. I left a big tip. I was sitting at the bar and the bartender wouldn’t leave me alone while I was waiting for our uber so I asked for the book back (it had been sitting next to him with the money in it) and I took back all the tip in front of the guy and left.

>> No.17138559

I'm very self conscious. If I'm tipping less than 15%, I almost run out of there after signing the receipt because I feel like I'm gonna be confronted baka

The only time I left $0 was at a pizza place. Waiter came buy took the food and drink order, came back with drinks, never saw him again. Kitchen staff brought the pizza, had to wave over a manager to get the tab.

Really fucking bad.
They'd have to go out of their way like they're trying to get fired and fuck up the place's reputation.
I had a waitress drop a plate of food in my lap on accident one time and I still tipped her. She apologized profusely but I wasn't even slightly annoyed. She obviously had some kind of wrist or elbow injury and that shit just gave out on her at the worst possible moment. From her wince of pain it was clear she really did give it her all trying to salvage it as it was on the way down, but if a joint goes, it just goes and that's that. I've been there.

Everyone fucks up, that's fine. I've fucked up, they've fucked up, and we'll all fuck up again. That's whatever.
That cunty attitude though, that shit gets on my nerves. I'm the chillest least demanding customer they'll ever have so if they're like that to me of all people, then I can't imagine how bad they are for the normal tier customers and beyond.

>> No.17139146

Any slight or sign of disrespect I don't tip. 50% + of the cost of the food is paying for service. I can make most of the stuff better myself anyways, so I wouldn't go out to be disrespected.

It's storytime with uncle anon bad-touch!
>About a decade and a half ago my best friend and I went to the Denny's located in Overland Park, KS. It is on the W 63rd St exit of I-35.
>It was late and we were exhausted after spending the day at Kansas City's anime conversation.
>We were quickly seated by an employee and then forgotten about.
>While waiting to order. A group of 3 obese black women came in and were seated in the booth behind my friend. They were so fat that when getting in, they managed to move the booth seat into our table since they couldn't get in like a non-fatass.
>They reeked of weed and were /pol/'s wet dream as one of them said; "I got my nails and hair did!" at the top of their fat incased lungs.
>Soon, my friend and I became more and more disgruntled at being ignored by the wait staff. The employee who seated us would pass by constantly to check in on other existing patrons or even new ones that have been seated.
>Finally, we decided to pull the classic "fuck with the table" BS of dosing the table with all of the condiments available to us. And writing HERE'S A TIP FUCK YOU inside of the pool.

THIS RIGHT HERE IS THE PROBLEM.
Why is it that everyone automatically defaults to tipping based off of the total after taxes, surcharges, fees, donations to onlyfans, etc, etc. You could order 1 small tiramisu topped with gold flake and a coffee with the virgin Mary's breast milk or some such ostentatious shit and come out with a very high bill for one or two items. Why tip based on the cost or at all for a waiter to bring a dainty plate and cup to your table?

Stop tipping based on cost instead of effort, or better yet do not tip at all.

Thanks to my old job. I would travel around the country constantly. The worse service I have ever experienced was at an IHOP near the West Virginia and Virginia borders.
>I have been driving all day and wanted some food before checking into my hotel
>Arrive and see that the restaurant is almost entirely empty except for an elderly couple while other servers are just laughing while sitting at a large table
>I get seated and place my order
Everything seems fine so far, right?
>My waitress disappears entirely after my food is delivered
>The last time I saw her was when she was flirting with a Hispanic looking cook outside the kitchen entry doors
>I finish eating and other servers have to pour me more water or ask if I want more food as the original waitress is gone. Her car is still out in the parking lot if that means anything from what one of the other waitresses tells me
>Another random waitress comes over to tell me that; "I cannot review the order that the (original waitress's name) placed in the system. It's locked so we don't know how much you owe."
>I say that I'm going to put $20 on the table and leave. Nope. I get told that I'll have the police called on me for dine and dashing.
>At this point I have been in this IHOP for over an hour and a half when my original waitress comes back with her clothes in a mess and she had the post-glow sex face
>My meal was $18-something. I didn't place a damn penny more on the table than what the receipt showed
While she got fucked, I was the one that felt it.

work in a restaurant as a server myself, I make Bank, we're extremely popular with the poor crowd. On a decent day I make $20 an hour before my hourly wage. On a bad day I won't have a single customer.
Mix drinks, I bring all the food, checking all of the orders to make sure they're correct, arguing with my (foreign) cooks to make sure they're correct. at the end of the night I clean the bathrooms
There are three of us in the restaurant at any time. Me, another server, and a cook. sometimes we get hit with a party of 30 and it suuuucks.

I have literally never stiffed a waiter because I used to wait tables and that shit's like an industrial grinder on your soul. Have seen some absolutely brutalized shells of people who have to live for but the growling in their stomach and a slight fear of death at the fringes of their psyche. >Because it's not a job. It's an unnecessary service and the only people who want it are psychopaths.

A good waiter expedites the process of food going from the kitchen to the customer's mouth at exactly the right moment, which makes the overall meal shorter and allows a restaurant to move more tables. Even on a basic level, the role of a waiter is to allow someone to just eat without having to worry about anything else.

It's unquestionably a luxury, but a ubiquitous one and one that people will likely never give up
