how did this suddenly became such an important fruit? I see them everywhere now and they taste like nothing.

I've literally never seen one outside of Asia.

The white ones are extremely bland, the ones that are pink inside taste nicer (and make really cool looking smoothies). I've also heard good things about the ones with yellow flesh but I've never tried them.

The problem is there's no way to tell what colour the flesh is without opening it.

I had one like two months ago and it wasn't that good.

Pic related however...

Holy fuck, you've just solved a mystery that's been plaguing me for the last 3 years. Finally I know what that fruit I had in Uganda is.

I mean it's the same as most other tropical fruits that are harvested half ripe and then frozen in time with all sorts of chemical shit so it can sit in a shipping container as it gets sent to north america or england or whatever.

Even just basic shit like pineapples, pineapples grow in a bush and you can smell them from across the field, but when you get it from a supermarket it's just a watered down version of it.

Coconuts tend to be disgusting as well, again bland with very little water in them or they sat in the suez canal for too long and they're rotted from the inside out

No dude, white dragonfruits are known to be extremely bland. I've only ever eaten them in countries where they're grown and they still taste bland

>> No.17066002

>>17065990
yeah and now imagine if they were harvested earlier than natural since they need to be shipped across the entire world, twice as bland

still, not bad, not every fruit has to taste like candy.

The wildest thing about these things are that they're cactus fruit, which is normally a giant pain in the ass to grow, but somehow these are farmable. Blew my fucking mind when I saw a farm for the first time.

white ones tend to have longer tendrils(or whatever you call those green things), while the red/magenta ones tend to have stubbier, more regular triangle like tendrils. Red ones also tend to be rounder while white ones tend to be slightly more elongated, as you can see in OP's image
Red ones can still be tasteless/sour if you're unlucky though

They're pretty hit or miss. I've had some white-fleshed ones that were extremely sweet and some that tasted like nothing.

nice try but you can't deflate the price with a thread

People think dragonfruit is bland because they eat underripe ones. Underripe and ripe dragon fruits are both bright pink so it's hard to tell them apart. The ripe ones are quite sweet.
