i fucking hate romani and all people of romani descent
literal subhuman animals
even the nogs at least understand that living in a house and having running water is a good thing. romani belong in the fucking wilderness, they live in waist deep garbage and seem to relish the experience, they speak utter gibberish and not once have i ever observed a romani with an iq which i could believe was above 90. they aren't religious, they aren't polticial, i don't think they actually believe in anything because that would require them to have some level of self awareness and not operate like literal chimps, eating when they are hungry, sleeping where they get tired, and stealing/destroying anything that they encounter. actually, calling them chimps is an insult to chimps, they're more like aggressive centipedes. you have to be really aggressive about keeping them the fuck out of your town, because if you let them set up shop they will never fucking leave, they'll just yell incoherently at you because they literally don't understand such concepts as land ownership or basic fucking civility.

i knew one decent romani and she also hated romani, so i forgave her for the curse of her birth and we used to talk about how shit romani are while eating chips behind the bike sheds at school.

there was a charity shop a few streets down from me that unironically closed down because fucking gyppos kept stealing all their second hand clothes and the police just didn't want to deal with them anymore so stopped dispatching an officer to watch the shop.

>tl;dr try traditional stuff and keep an open mind

i'm sure someone else can add some "must try" stuff but here's what i can think of

>christmas food.
check out a list of traditional finnish christmas foods on google and pick what you want. glögi, herring, cured salmon, rosolli and the different casseroles (carrot, turnip, potato, liver) are pretty essential
>mämmi
sold in the spring, around easter if you don't like mämmi plain or with just sugar try milk or vanilla sauce
>traditional pastries: korvapuusti, runebergin torttu & laskiaispulla
latter 2 are sold around early-mid february or you can make them yourself. they're pretty simple to bake
>karjalanpiirakka with egg butter
>reindeer and mashed potatoes

here's a link with some traditional stuff from the Rauma-area and where to buy them
https://www.visitrauma.fi/en/see-and-experience/like-a-local/local-rauma-delicacies/

you should stay away from people offering you the saltiest liquorice they can get their hands on unless you like that, but it is rare for foreigners to like it. keep an open mind and you will most likely enjoy your stay. this place isn't that bad

I'm not a fan of fish, so that takes out a big portion of finnish food.

I understand they don't have a long growing season. Not a lot of herbs and spices. I fucking love dill, and I guess that's pretty common? My favorite sipping liquor is dill aquavit, which maybe is norwegian, danish or scandinavia, but I'm guessing isn't underhead of finland.

So I do admire with making do with what you have available. Just how much comfort foods involve starchy parts like potatoes and dairy parts like cream and cheese? If that's what 's left of Finish cuisine after fish, I still think there's plenty to enjoy/be proud of.

And as many of them look like in that pic as finns. They have blond/dark hair in the same ratio as finns. One thing in which i would say that they are better is emotional intelligence. It would be things like pasta heavily processed sausage carrot chunks and bits of potato all boiled in the same pot on a filthy stove. He retired in his early 40 if I remember correctly and has been living of pensions since. He is a qualified radio amateur and hosts a web radio show but according his Wikipedia article he isn't interested in professional radio career because of his pension bucks. The wikipedia article also lists "his political commitments" as one of the things he's known for but it doesn't go into what his political opinions are. I remember his home in his videos being quite messy, and I might be wrong but I guess that he's happy enough with having a roof over his head, macaroni in his pot, and that having a job is for people who think that they need to have more.
I also remembered one really old video where he went to buy a can of tuna and some bread, and when he entered the store he walked past two of my school friends holding cans of energy drinks in their hands and I think Pasi might have made comment about it as he noticed that they were young fans of him. It's pretty cool to have such a down to earth celebrity in our humble little city of Lahti.

Meat mug.
Story goes that years ago some late-night boozer was hungry. So he went to some kebab place and asked for kebab but without the pita bread or fries or rice or anything, just the meat. So the owner stuffed kebab meat and some sauce to a soda cup and served that.
It was such stupid idea that it catched on and is now stable in town I live in.

Its nostalgia value I guess. Its not a bad product. You can make some pretty good pea soup and porridge with it if you dont want to keep watch over your stove (for example if you want to just set your soup to boil and then have it stew while you sleep). Its an underrated product because they advertised it wrong
>make some meatballs
>now that they are ready to eat, wait for eight hours
Its essentially a large heat retention brick oven but for a single pot.

Pasi Viheraho is kinda cool. He has some mental health problems and his cooking is weird, but he ain't dumb, he just has serious attitude problems (he routinely films videous of himself of arguing with customer service clerks on youtube about menial shit). He used to be in the phreaking (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phreaking)) scene in the 1980's and he is known to have skills in repairing electronics (VHS machines, CRT TV's etc.) and he occasionally runs his own UHF radio (and he ran his own internet radio on the weekend for many years).

The reason he is a permaNEET in his 50's is because he hacked his town's phone center's computer and jammed it causing him to get charged tens of thousands of Finnish Marks in damages. He decided to not get a real job because he felt it was unjust and still has a lot of money in distraint bills. Thus he lives on the Finnish government NEETbux. He's just an eccentric personality and a large part of finnish internet lore.

This food by Pasi is kinda smart. He purchases chicken leg quarters (with the bones), which are the cheapest meat you can generally purchase in Finland. He boils them in water for 20 minutes and then rips off the meat from the bone. It costs around 1,70-2€ per kilogram and even without the bone you're paying around 2,5€ per kilo of chicken meat. I used this method often when I was a student. Often made chicken broth from the bones that were left over.

Now if you want some REAL SHIT, this is the "Wintery hangover meal" by a famous Finnish neet niilo22
>two shrimp flavour instant noodle packets
>two 2€ microwaveable pizzas (cut into the soup with scissors)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2e5w3z-YXk
My friend made this once, its supposedly a 5/10 food that goes down allright if you actually do have a hangover. The mini-pizzas are better when eaten separately from the noodles
