I used to have the WORST time peeling hard bowled eggs. I tried the "poke-raw-eggs-with-needle trick", as well as "ice-bath-immediately-after-cooking". then I tried "boil-first-then-add-eggs" and now all of my eggs are easy to peel.

>> No.16848596

I bought a cast iron skillet the other week, and have used it almost daily since then, following the care instructions that came with the skillet and I've noticed that it's getting quite greasy and that the grease is not being removed by the care steps.

Rinse with water, scrub with brush, rub clean with towel, then rub a little bit of oil on the work surface of the skillet, rub clean with towel again in case you over applied, then store -- that's what I've been doing. None of those steps really do anything to remove grease, so of course it's starting to build up, and it's making me want to hit it with soap even though I know I'm not supposed to.

Is this normal for cast iron? Like it's not dripping with it, it's not macroscopically greasy where you can see the buildup on the iron, but you can feel it when you touch it and I'm not sure if that's normal.

no beans.
you didn't chop the lettuce, i bet you didn't wash it either.
the tomatoes are like you gave up chopping because your knife is so fucking dull it can't cut tomato skin. pico de gallo is chopped tomato, onion, serrano, cilantro and lime juice. this is just chunks of garden fuck tomato.
stop using red pepper, sour cream, and salsa. mexicans don't put that shit in their burritos.
nothing here is non-processed or fresh other than a couple of veggies.
you're cooking with margarine.
you have nicocado avokado levels of sour cream and salsa on that tortilla, both white person ingredients in mexican food that's usually a side in restaurants for pleasing white people palates. salsa is for chips.
at least wrap the shit consistently and use foil or wax paper to hold your trash together.
it also looks like you didn't even bother heating the tortilla up directly before wrapping it or overheated it and waited too long to wrap it. that's why your overloaded, white people "wrap" won't stick to itself.

did you really make this image believing someone would think "oh now i can finally make burritos"? never post again.

I’m drunk too anon, I’m sorry for making fun of your burrito critique. I agree it’s important to look from the beginners perspective and honestly I don’t think infographs are helpful for them, they need to watch cooking videos. Old recordings of good eats and other kino food network shows or just YouTube chefs, anything to show them what each step is actually supposed to look like. The pics that show unit conversions and spice combinations are helpful but if you’re trying to learn to cook you won’t do it from a still image.

If you can find a pork butt with the fat cap still on you can throw it into the pot and render it while the meat cooks. When the liquid evaporates you can crank the heat and fry the meat right in the pot.

When it says to drain the tuna, it really means DRAIN it. If there is more moisture than needed, the egg won't bind anything because it will be too diluted. Really squeeze all of the water you can out of the tuna before adding anything else and it should bind and stay solid.

the rolled end blankets forward while you get the roll to stick

Not him but my boomer mother had zero interest in anything cookery for a long time, until I was about 14 then she learnt how to make lasagna which was pretty good. My Dad cooks, the men on his side are all pretty good cooks. If my parents had split when I was young and I'd lived with my mom I strongly doubt that I'd know anything much about cooking, aside from the lasagna maybe but I think she did that out of peer pressure from the rest of us encouraging her to try something.

There’s a lot of people now who never had someone at home to cook for them, or that grow up on ready made food and stuff like that.
