Why would you put that on a sign? If it's not prime you're just overemphasizing your low-grade beef.

I should mention that I (>>16800565) live in Canada.

Meat in general is becoming really expensive here. I now do big orders from a butcher and vacuum seal the meat and almost exactly one year ago I bought medium ground beef for $5.29/lb CAD and it is now $5.99/lb, a 13% increase.

This is happening with everything here and our government downplays inflation. Every time I go shopping I am actually shocked at some of the prices and don't buy certain things anymore unless they are on sale. My wife bought green beans last week and it was $5 for a prepackaged bag of them, maybe 1 lb or so. Produce is through the roof, with pints of any berry being at least $4-5 this week. I have kids and it's crazy how expensive things are.

Because each grade was given an overly positive qualifier to sway the consumer. It isn't A, B, C or 1, 2, 3 it is PRIME!, CHOICE! and SELECT! Every choice is amazing because they are all great. They don't describe anything.

I bring this up a lot of this board because the people deserve to know but go to ALDI and buy pic related. I don't know where they source their steak from nor do I care because it tastes way better than it has any right to at the price.

big box supermarkets are getting fucked on beef prices. go to the farmer's market or find a local source grocer/butcher for meat, it's actually cheaper and better these days. picrel is grassfed organic chuck roast for $6/lb

>they are all great
Select = a step above standard. “Good”.
Choice = even better than standard. “Better”.
Prime = the best of something as far as given criteria go. “Best”.
Even if someone doesn’t understand the actual connotations of the words, it takes two seconds to look it up or ask the butcher.
Using those terms to grade marbling also makes more sense than using terms like ‘blue’, ‘rare’ or ‘well-done’ to grade “rawness”.

I do mine rare, but if it's in a restaurant, I order medium rare because they always undercook (so they don't fuck up and overcook it accidently and they have to throw it out), so I really get a rare steak.

A bit more than half of graded beef is choice.
But plenty of beef isn’t graded at all. Grading isn’t the same as inspection, which is mandatory.
