I've seen it happen a grand total of one time. The pilot had announced that he was retiring the next day and that this was his last flight. (Luckily he mentioned this after we landed, not before takeoff.)
The ground crew had this big ceremony where they hosed down the plane on the tarmac. Kinda a neat sendoff for the guy.

I live in Vegas, so clapping happens every once in a while because people are excited to get there and get drunk. But I've been on a few flights where the weather or landing has been dicey, and people clap because they're alive.

My dad's a pilot, so I've been flying my whole life, and have seen all kinds of shit on planes.

pizza shop in my town is okay, they do a lot of stuff pretty well (no so much the actual pizza but the sandwiches and dinners are quite nice).
