A lot of my relatives can't stomach lamb, they complain about an unpleasant smell that comes from all sheep meat cooked or uncooked, however I genuinely never smelled anything, It's just a regular piece of meat for me

No idea. Probably because they never eat it. Many Americans never have.

lamb is my favourite red meat to be desu

i have nothing of value to add except that. no recipes or anything. sorry.

Because they are unclean, anon. I'm sorry, you're going to have to abandon them.

It has a very distinct flavor to it, not a gamey taste, but something different from beef. Most boomer Americans eat lean beef and think meat should taste like nothing. You have good taste anon.

i don't want to shit mutts yet again but it seems they are accustomed to meat that is raised in a feed yard and fed corn

>> No.16693636

It has a flavor so tastelets assume it is “gamey” or gross. They should stick to chicken nuggets. More lamb for us

Adult sheep and even mutton have a nonpleasent flavour and smell worse than haut gout though.

I'd love to watch a tastelet that thinks lamb is gross to try eat patrician meats like pheasant and venison.

Lamb goat and sheep are too expensive for the average consumer. When they want to eat expensive they go for lobster and other crap. I'm not complaining though. The 5 lamb chops that cost 50 dollars would be even more expensive if everyone knew how good they were. Beef is a joke compared to some good lamb chops marinated in yogurt and spices

I don't even know, where to buy actual sheep here in Germany, because it's considered poor people trash food. Probably in Turkish stores. Lamb can be bought everywhere and costs around the same as veal or beef depending on the cut.
It's still not popular in our cuisine except for the traditional easter lamb. Most buy it for a special meal from time to time. People order lamb often in Greek, Turkish or Balkan restaurants though.

Dude, sheep is practically free on the international market. It's grinded up for animal fodder. Lamb is also very cheap .

It's the lack of demand that makes its cost much in the USA, not the other way around.

The more something sells, the less profit margin supermarkets can have on the product. Something that sells little, like lamb in the USA, will either have a huge margin, or stop being sold. If more people ate lamb in the USA, prices would go down.

From my experience smell and the aftertaste is what people dislike. Some people also dislike the fat in it, but those people are crazy.

its bland and always every single time without fail that i try lamb again at a different place, it taste gamey

>It's the lack of demand that makes its cost much in the USA, not the other way around.
It's both. We import lamb because we prioritize fielding cows over lamb.

Old and male animals have a stronger flavour and its places in ground meat or stews where taste is ranked higher than texture unlike steaks etc.
Sheeps and goats are like the only animals, which flavour turns actually disgusting with age.

Only had lamb that didn't reek one time. Unfortunately it was my grandfather's favourite meat so we ate it often. It's also the easter custom here
I've had sheep a few times and it seemed better

Percieved "gaminess" by Americans. I love lamb, but we never grew up eating it because my mom couldn't stand the smell of it. I wish I could eat it more now that I live on my own, but it's so damn expensive where I live.

>> No.16694034

The lamb you import costs next to nothing. The high price is created after it arrives in the USA.

Lambs are more expensive than cows to raise and process. The 1850 mutiny in India over bullets greased with the oil of cows and pigs has a very funny footnote. The British gave the production contract to an Indian Hindu brahmins factory to produce the cartridges in India using lamb or sheep grease. He decided to use cow and pig because they yielded much more fat per animal.

Maybe it's genetic? Because everyone I know loves lamb chops. It's expensive as fuck too. Maybe they should try lamb chops at a Indian restaurant. Spicy and roasted bbq like. Its so tender.

Have to agree. We only ever ate baby goat at my home. I don't eat goat but I would go buy it and Its on the menu at the butchers shop. Baby goat is more expensive than goat.

Lamb is my favourite kind of meat.
Its easy to fuck up lamb and imo lamb is actually pretty badly tasting meat if not prepared properly.
So I'm inclined to believe that most people simply have had bad lamb.

Yes, good and bad lamb chops are all about how well you cook them and marinate them.

you should drink beer, whiskey, or wine since you have the sense of smell for it.

The same way you get used to your own smell, you never smell mutton - because you are a sheep
Jokes aside its smell, taste and chewiness depend on how it is prepared - at least from my experience
Boiled mutton is shit-tier, might as well not eat at all; while fire-fried is really nice, even the smell becomes pleasant

>> No.16694404

It’s pretty good, but usually expensive for no reason. Just get chicken or beef

>Lambs are more expensive than cows to raise and process.
Obviously wrong. Beef costs a lot more than lamb on the international market and this has been true for so long that the prices would have corrected if lamb truly cost more than beef to produce.

The reasons lamb is expensive in the USA are specific to USA and doesn't apply to the world market or most of the world.

Sheep and even more so goats can be raised on terrain that isn't suitable for raising other animals.

I don't get it, either. I absolutely love lamb. I just bought a meat slicer for winter hotpot and I went to the butcher and bought some lamb legs. Now I get to slice it up paper thin and enjoy the delicious fragrance, flavour and taste all winter.

Mutton is delicious. Get on my level, boys.
