I am going into town this weekend (Labor day) for my yearly specialty grocery browse before I start freezing produce, meats and things for winter. So it's my only time to get spices.

What are some good spices in bottles that will stay fresh for a year that I can buy to put on Turkey, Chicken, Tuna and Roast Beef sandwiches?

I currently have Peppercorn, salt and Parsley. Thank you,

You aren't planning to store ground spices for an entire year, right anon?

They should last a year in the dark in the mid 50s right?

What about dill on a turkey sandwich? That was what I was going to consider. Maybe dried onion flakes?

Id look into the shelf lives of various spices. Typically the trend is the bigger/less processed the spice, the greater the shelf life. Powders are the first to spoil, so if you can get them in their whole form do that. For example cinnamon comes both in sticks and in powder form. Get the sticks and grind as necessary

Do that with all the spices you want. My favourite spices that have a wide range of applications are garlic onion cayenne and paprika

Makes sense, I would assume in the dark and mid 50s temp is near ideal. I will consider buying larger whole spices if possible, but I gotta also weigh convenience. I really am quite new to spices and in the winter everything starts to taste the same day after day so I really want to be prepared this year so I need to start learning up.

Garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper

Ill remember that. Thanks. I'll actually try it and test to see if there is a difference. I can probably go six months instead of twelve if I really had a reason to go into town.

Garlic might be nice. In whole form.

I'd rather keep some plants so you can add fresh chives or parsley that improve sandwiches much more than spices imo.

I didn't know what you mentioned were not spices. What are those things like parsley and dill called and are there more that csn be used for sandwiches.

Also about parsley... Is it mostly green decoration?

Garnish is what you call them.
