>>16643207
When chocolate was first popularized in America by Milton Hershey, he had no idea how to actually make chocolate that tasted like it did when he tried it in Europe. He also had no idea how to make chocolate period. So he had a guy try to make it. He had built an entire city designed to house the workers at his factory which STILL wasn't producing because he didn't even have the formula finished yet. The guy formulating the chocolate had Hershey try it and it was a little sour but Hershey decided to go with it anyways because he needed to start making product and Americans wouldn't know the fucking difference. Chocolate got popular in America but pretty much all chocolate was based off of Hershey's chocolate that had a little sourness in it. So over time Americans became accustomed to it and that flavor became what they perceived as the flavor of chocolate. That is why they are different.

I'm American and I have always despised Hershey's chocolate. When I was around 5 or 6 I begged my mom for a chocolate bar at the store. It was like 100F outside and she forced me to eat the whole thing in one sitting since I begged for it. It made me horribly sick and I've never really liked chocolate since in general, but even the thought of Hershey's makes me feel ill.
When I was a teenager my friends all went to Hershey park and spent the whole day eating grotesque amounts of chocolate. The smell alone made me feel so sick I didn't even want to get on any rides. I occasionally like dark chocolate, but that's it. I recently got some of these and really enjoyed them.

I like to make my own candy and always use high quality chocolate for this. I also enjoy purchasing small batch chocolate from chocolatiers. When I really want a candy bar I sometimes cave in and get the processed types. Always with some form of whole almonds, peanuts, or possibly a processed nougat.

I consider the latter to be mostly garbage. I don't really consider it chocolate and I don't think anyone should consider the corporations that Nestle and Hershey's became to be anything more than chemical companies.

unless you're talking mass-produced chocolate, nestle hershey etc. then it tastes as cheap as they can make it. shortening, sugar, shit like op is posting about. it's barely chocolate at all. fine to enjoy though if you can stand the taste or if you've never had anything else so you don't know what chocolate is supposed to taste like or if you're high on drugs.

talking about real chocolate manufacturers and chocolatiers though: in my experience, americans tend to treat chocolate like coffee. they can produce a high quality dark chocolate with intense flavor. but they don't know what they're doing when it comes to milk chocolate.

The "Hershey's tastes like vomit" thing is the most Mandela Effect thing in my life. I've eaten lots of chocolate from all over the world, and I've never noticed a difference in taste.

yuros seemed to like hershey’s just fine back in ‘44.

Depends on the brand, but if you buy plastic-wrapped bars at grocery stores, they all suck.

See's candy is pretty decent though.

It doesn't taste like vomit, although I now better understand why it tastes so crappy.

You'll have to agree that Hershey's chocolate is NOT worth either the money or the calories.

Kinder is such lovely chocolate, but why is it always in such small portions? Even the maxi bar is miniscule, is it really expensive to make or something?

I wouldn't be so cocky when your traiwreck of a country got its ass handed (AGAIN) by camel fuckers wearing towels. Anyway I never tried any american chocolate but I like the toblerone brand and cote d'or chocolate with chestnuts.

I haven't had hersheys in year but I don't remember it tasting like vomit at all, I remember it being semi flavorless wax chocolate.
