this is a personal favorite. a lot of the japanese rice toppings are pretty good, especially gomashio. however i still eat my rice plain most of the time since i usually have it with some heavily seasoned protein.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Furikake yet in this thread. Gives you all the flavor and crunch you need, without getting your rice soggy, plus there's like a dozen types so you don't get bored with just one.

I hate this shit. "ONRY IN GRORIOUSU NIPPON DO RE DO RHIS BASEC THRINGU!" "GOHAN IS THE SINGRE GREATESTO FOODO STUFFU EVERU MADEU!"

Ignoring soy sauce is just fermented fish sauce variant and Garum predates it by millennia, ignoring egg flips being a staple for athletes and hard workmen for 2+ centuries and raw eggs are used extensively in European cuisine. Being shocked by rice and milk and not knowing what creamed rice or arroz con leche is. Japanese food without introduced fried chicken and ultra mild curry powder is basically; rice, fish, seaweed and plain noodles.

Even their so called "GRORIOS NIPPON BEEFU" is chuck steak tier and when I was in Japan I made a normal Uruguayan barbecue for my work mates with Asado, Chinchulines etc with a desert of home made dulce de leche/membrillo filled pastries and they not only could not stfu about it for weeks but insisted I write detailed instructions. I made banana bunuelos and it was like the second coming for them. I like most seafood but after 15 months in Japan I start feeling nauseous by even the smell of anything fish related. They even ruined milanesa for me something I literally grew up eating after insisting I make fish versions...

So my steam cooker has 2 levels. The bottom one is where you put the water that will boil and have the vapor go up, and the top one where I put the rice in some water. Pretty standard. So I had the bright idea to put a peach tea bag in the bottom compartment. When the rice was finished, it had a slight taste of peach and it was really good. And now for OP's question, what did I put on it? Well since it was a bit sweet, I put some maple syrup on it and it was actually pretty good. Now when i have left over rice in the morning, i eat it will maple syrup and scrambled eggs as breakfast.
