I don't 'get' steak. It's expensive as fuck, the texture isn't anything special, and the flavor is good but also singular and unsophisticated. I don't understand why a hunk of meat with salt and pepper is considered some kind of gourmet experience. It would taste better in a sandwich or a stir fry or burger or something. I'm not saying I hate steak, but I'd prefer to eat most other foods. There's nothing deluxe about it except the cost. It's boring. A cheap stir fry, a burrito, a sandwich or a curry would be half the cost and three times the flavor.

Any other /ck/ers who have seen through the scam of steak?

Steak is delicious. You just are fat and have never really been hungry.

Of course I never pay much for a steak since it all comes either from my cow share or as gifts from relatives. I like the primal simplicity that comes from a nice piece of muscle meat.

What? That’s the best part along with the flavour. Nothing is juicy and savoury like a well cooked pink steak. There isn’t anything that comes close to the juiciness and satisfying chew with a great steak. The flavour compliments this texture perfectly and so you really don’t need any sauce or flavours that will sit on top of the steak’s flavour. So does a head of cabbage but people don't pretend it's some kind of gourmet experience to eat one with salt and pepper.
>>16544413
Nobody naturally tastes a grilled steak as complicated. It's one flavor: cooked meat. You can get into the right headspace to appreciate the simplicity of it, but it isn't complicated. It's juicy meat with salt and pepper that's seared on the outside and pink in the middle. You can have almost exactly the same experience eating duck or lamb but people wouldn't pretend a piece of meat on a plate counts as a balanced meal that doesn't need anything else.
>>16544393
I've eaten a lot of steaks, the difference between a good restaurant steak and a good homemade steak is minimal because it's a simple food. At home you're more likely to get a steak cooked in butter and garlic with a herb like rosemary or thyme, but even this is overrated. Steaks don't really suck up the butter while they're cooking, you're mostly just flavoring the outside. It's not like making gnocchi or something. Most of the butter will remain in the pan.

There's something very enjoyable about the simplicity of a well-cooked steak on its own. The flavor and texture are both what makes it so good. It's simple but also complex as getting a steak cooked just the way you like does take skill. Getting a nice, slightly crispy sear on the outside while rare/med-rare, not medium and not blue, inside takes some practice.

That being said, I love A1 and dont care that people put sauces on steak. Even after learning how to make it just the way I like it, I still keep some A1 around or make a peppercorn, diane, etc sauce. Particularly if you've got a shittier cut of meat (which you can help with a salt cure too), put whatever sauce you want on it to make it most enjoyable for you.

very easy to prepare. Just salt, pepper, enough heat to sear the outside and its delicious, nutritious, and satisfying. It's a dream of mine to raise, slaughter, and butcher my own cow. That would be wonderful.

Primal pleasure can come from much more than eating a steak, you can get it from going on a walk in the woods or foraging. It's a nice escape from modern industrial society that seems to just be worsening the mental and physical health of people. I mean, look how many people on here cannot get by without screeching as many buzzwords as they can at one another instead of having a conversation like a normal human behind.

>But, they still have to advertise like crazy. Because it's not actually good food. Get it?
I humbly disagree.
Fast food rarely advertises to “remind” you how “good” it is.
Most of the advertising focuses on limited items, new items, special pricing offers, etc. Nobody needs to be reminded that a Big Mac exists, but letting people know they’re half price for a week is worth the advertising budget.
It’s the same reason cheap “steak” chains like outback do the same thing.

Nice steak places don’t have to advertise such deals/offers because their target clientele isn’t going to care about a limited-time $5 off a steak or a free side.

Sad.

i love steak, but i wont buy it at a restaurant. im by no means a professionally trained chef, but i can legit cook a steak better than most of these places charging 38 for a filet 9/10 times, even when i went to a really nice steakhouse last year for xmas and bought a $58 ribeye, i was still certain i had made a better steak at home for like a quarter of the price

its not about being "primal" its about being mature enough to enjoy more subtle and minimalist flavors without them being overshadowed by oyster sauce or some shit

Is there also nothing primal about the primary-flavor forward presentation of a primary ingredient?

Yeah, I can agree with the sentiment about restaurant steak
Most of them just pull some prepackaged marinated shit out of their fridge and grill it
Completely suspect on the quality of the meat if they have to/or can get away with drenching it in shit

Not a sauce nor about the flavor, you use the pineapple for the enzymes that tenderize the fuck out of the steak and slice thin so each bite is just chewy juicy goodness almost melt-in-your-mouth and you can easily taste the flavor of the steak but mainly your toppings or sauce that you use like a normal human being, like peppercorns, mushrooms, reduction sauce, whatever.

I get OP's point about just steak-on-a-plate being kinda boring, but if it's a high quality slab of meat and dry-aged, it's extremely enjoyable on its own.
