Depends on the branch, as a navyfag (redundant) the food quality varies WILDLY between commands. Shore commands have a huge amount of variation in them, and the quality of food going from shore to ship is even more unpredictable.

Based on my experience, food on big decks like carriers don't qualify as edible, cruisers and destroyers are only semi-acceptable if the supply LCPO is a good cook himself and is willing to crack down on lazy 40IQ cooks. Either way the healthier options are given out sparingly, carbs abound, and the only food they don't fuck up is so bad for you that you'd be better off chugging firemain.

I know in the air force food is good only when someone orders them to make it good. best options are usually to go on the sandwich line. unhealthy foods are always cooked properly for some reason. some bases have really good options and others poor. i know i consistently had to complain about the fucking cheese for them to start making lasagna and macaroni better.

Don't discount the fact that the younger generation typically has a more critical, negative view of the US military (as they fucking should). People can get in shape if they wanna get in the military, I don't think obesity is the driving factor here, but it's definitely a factor.
