I put some salt on a steak and I was going to cook it but I got sidetracked and I put it in the fridge and ended up eating something else. Will it be ok tomorrow? I've cooked steak one (1) time in my life so far.

That's what you're meant to do so the salt penetrates into the steak.

Oh, really? I thought it might draw out all the moisture and leave it a withered little mess.

It'll be fine, you'd need to put it in a tub of salt to do that.

Tell me what you're going to do if we told you it won't be okay tomorrow

I would have it for lunch so more like 18 hours.
>>16418648
Well I'm going to give it a sniff tomorrow and cook it if it's ok, and if not I'll have some sardines. Just wanted an idea of what to expect.

It does draw out some moisture but most of it will eventually be reabsorbed. When you do this the salt helps the steak stay juicier and tenderizes it a little bit, so it's actually good. I always do this if I remember in advance.

I'm certainly getting that impression from the replies!
>>16418790
Unfortunately I will be cooking it on a shitty disposable barbecue. Here's my first attempt:

fren, how do you get sidetracked and "accidentally" fill your stomach with something else while you're cooking?

>> No.16418816

>>16418794
Friend those steaks are too thin. Dont buy anything that's less than 2 fingers. As you can see it is not possible to get a good sear before overcooking the inside. Better to buy a whole piece then cut them yourself.
If it's about 2 fingers you can just pansear it, if it's 3 fingers+ you need to sear+indirect heat until desired core temperature.
good luck.

I put salt on it and just left it sitting out, but then something else came up and I knew I'd be too busy to cook it so I put it in the fridge and ate something else.
>>16418816
OK, might buy a thicker one next time. Thank you.
