i dont know, are most unnecessary kitchen gadgets a meme? probably

>> No.16398661

Got a really nice air fryer recently as a gift, everything you need to know:
Some of them are memes. Don't buy the cheapest airfryer you can buy because they're dogshit. It should go to at least 400 degrees and have a copper-lined interior for desirable cooking
Can do an incredible variety of foods in it better than a conventional oven. Anything that specifically needs direct contact with high heat and not waning convection works extremely well, i.e., french fries obviously, breads, tandoori chicken and chicken in general (gets up to temp fast as fuck, renders fat extremely nicely) and, unsurprisingly, just about anything you'd fry can be done in the air fryer without the mess, danger and cleanup
Some shit just doesn't work as well as you'd think, but if you understand how convection works and what cooks well with direct convection rather than typical convection cooking it's worth buying

Cool, thanks for the insight. I also received one as a gift recently but put using it on hold.

Got one as a wedding present a couple of months ago. Really handy piece of equipment and I use it all the time. Great for getting most frozen things crispy really quick without having to bake it forever in an oven or create a huge mess deep frying it.

If you're a fan I highly recommend trying to make some tandoori chicken in it to see the potential. Preheat for 5 minutes on the highest temp, get your double-marinated chicken and stick it in just like you would a real tandoor, about 18 minutes on the highest setting (23 for bone-in and large breasts) before taking ghee or slices of butter and laying them on top for 5-7 more minutes
It blackens the top while cooking it quickly and rendering the fat better than you could EVER hope to achieve in a standard convection oven. It can only be beaten by stovetop gas tandoors in my opinion

Noted. I don't usually make tandoori chicken because I prefer when it's prepared using clay tandoors but if it comes out as tasty as you say I might as well give it a go.

i used to think they were a meme, then got a big ass one for cheap to try it out and i'm a convert.

it's way better than i expected. I live in texas and use it a lot when I don't want to heat up my house by turning on the oven.

it makes good wings from frozen, easy breakfast sausage, easy bacon, great freezer hashbrowns and fries, good for roasting some heartier veg, basically any frozen junk food turns out great in it. stuff i would normally cook in the oven on a sheet tray + wire rack turns out great in here with faster preheat, and easier cleanup.

i'd recommend getting one that's a big basket style that's nonstick and dishwasher safe so you can just shake it instead of flipping stuff in it, and it makes it super easy to clean. they also go on sale fairly often if you keep an eye out.
