If you're on the market for a toaster oven,, then just get a toaster over with the convection bake setting. It's essentially the same thing as air frying but it's also a toaster oven.

People buy it because some marketing people spent money to convince them it has some benefit, which it does not. Its just to make money. Note how airfryer fries are twice the price of oven fries, yet identical. Do not underestimate the power of marketing.

If you buy an air fryer on sale they're extremely cheap. Cheaper than a microwave.

I use my air fryer because my oven is trash and takes 30 minutes to preheat. It is also a non convection oven so the air fryer does cook things more quickly.

For the most part they are just convection toaster-ovens with added bells & whistles. They are a meme, but still possibly legit depending on your needs. There are different form factors. After initially scoffing, I eventually got a countertop "grill" with additional modes for air crisp (air fry), bake, roast, and dehydrate. For feeding one or two people, it's faster and more convenient than firing up the full oven or charcoal grill, largely because (being so small) it preheats in just a few minutes. I can, on a whim, do a "grilled" burger or fish fillet in ten minutes start to finish--of course not as tasty as charcoal-grilled food, but again, convenient. (And cleanup is easy.) The "air crisp/fry" mode quickly makes super-crispy frozen tendies, among other things. If you decide to fall for the meme too, note that various Ninja models frequently go on sale at Costco. (There are some that look more like regular toaster ovens too, which may be able to fit smaller frozen pizzas.)

Air fryer is so much quicker than the oven for one and you aren't heating up a huge space just to cook a few chicken breasts. I only use my oven 1 or 2 times a week these days verses 5-6 times before

They then buy garbage plastic convection ovens and are surprised at how convenient tiny ovens are because they don't understand basic physics. It's the same thing with the instapot. American consumer pigs threw out their pressure cookers and then were incredibly surprised at how convenient pressure cooking is because they are literally retarded. (I will say that the instapot is at least pretty well made and not just a cheap plastic pressure cooker though).
