Why does drinking water make me feel more thirsty than soda?

Well, kinda. If I drink soda, it takes longer to feel thirsty again than with water. Soda, it can take me an entire afternoon to get through one bottle. While with water, the longest it takes me to feel thirsty again is probably an hour., and I find myself taking more swigs of water in the same length of time than with soda.

You have a poor electrolyte balance

You are coating your throat with a sugary syrup that does in fact quench your perceived thirst better. Just like the soda sticks on your tongue and back of your mouth.
Water straight up clears your throat of all that so it feels itchier and "dry" faster.

Yes. This is exactly how the sensation of thirst works.

It's probably just the high amount of sugar in soda causing you to not want to drink so much of it. You probably do need more liquid though. Sometimes I'll wake up a chug a quart of water and feel great, but there's no way I could do that with soda without feeling sick.

You're probably only drinking the soda when you're thirsty but also craving sugar. If you're not craving the sugar then you think you're not thirsty, but you probably do need more liquids if you drink that much more water. Sometimes when I wake up I'll be thirsty enough to want to drink a whole quart of water and I feel good after fully rehydrating, but if I tried that with soda I'd just get sick from all the sugar.

There are different facets of being thirsty anon.
Yes, there is a thirst that comes from deep in your body and you feel an actual need for water. Like when youve been running.

Then there is a more superficial thirst.
You get a dry mouth, scratchy or dry throat. Your body quite literally doesnt need water to function, but your throat feels uncomfortable so you hit it with some water.

Well, it does if you're specifically talking about the perception of thirst.

you're drinking "drinking water".
it has poison in it to make you thirstier.
they call it "minerals for enhanced flavor".
it's the third shot in a lethal injection, potassium chloride.
