You're a retard who didn't do any research beforehand. New Orleans has great food and drinks, just not on Bourbon Street. Why would you expect to get good food and drink at the biggest tourist trap area in the city? Don't tell me you went to Cafe du monde for bignettes too

Because, at least when I went (which was March of last year) it was like a 1.5 hour wait to get inside, when there are plenty of other places including right across the street (picrel) that serve delicious biegnets without the wait. there are some good restaurants there, but they all exist behind a new orleans gimmick, like poached eggs, an oyster bar or 3 miles of the best bloody marys in town. the influx of art faggots and normie gentrification actually brought in a couple of good ramen and mexican places, but they didnt last. new orleans has good fried and boiled seafood, drunk food, poboys are good, their sloppa and rice plates are top nut, they have good chinese, veit and med food. bout it everything else is french creole meme food, which is delicious if you didnt grow up eating it. glad i moved and never going back. don't eat gulf oysters raw

Fuck "food destinations". Unless it's somewhere actually tied to geography (E.g., New York Pizza is acknowledged as being superior due to New York Water), it's just a scam. Maybe in some small midwestern town you won't be able to find high quality cuisine, but any large American metropolis has ALL the food that you think you can only find elsewhere. Top chefs from all over America AND all over the world come to set up shop in American cities to serve their cuisine of specialty. You can go to any large American city and get the exact same experience. Again, with the exception of New York Pizza, which can only be made in New York City.

Okay so retards import water from new york, doesn't mean it actually makes a difference. Don't talk about 'le science' when there actually is no study whatsoever about new york water affecting pizza. The reason new york pizza is good is because new york has such a big pizza name that everybody knows about it, and competition is extremely fierce so they need to be top of their game. It has absolutely nothing to do with the water, and having tried tons of pizza places, including many of the supposed best in NYC, I can tell you its not the best, both at the upper echelon of NYC pizza and ESPECIALLY not on average. Walk into a random pizza shop in NYC and you're guaranteed its going to be shit unless there's a 2 hour line out the door in which case it absolutely is NOT worth waiting that long for a fucking slice of pizza. In that amount of time you may as well drive to New Haven which is 2 hours away from NYC and get the actual best pizza on the east coast. NYC fags like you are cancer

i've processed a lot of them working in fish houses and the way we handle them- they're just not safe to be eaten that way. if you're comfortable eating raw seafood in the first place, you'll probably be fine, but new orleans seafood is fresh, meaning straight out of our dirty gulf to your table, maybe briefly packed in ice. we carried tweezers on the fish line not to pick out bones, but to pull the worms (harmless, but not something the guests need to see) as they evacuated the cooking filets. our cooked seafood is great. if you want to eat raw oysters, go to an oyster bar for the ambiance and have some nice murder point or kumamotos for a premium price. don't get a fever from eating .50 cent local oysters. they also get fucking huge, mealy and sweet, just not a very nice thing to have a mouthfull of raw.

>You're a retard who didn't do any research beforehand. New Orleans has great food and drinks, just not on Bourbon Street.

Everyone knows Morningstar > Cafe du Monde, but not by much. Just a locals knowledge. I have been to NOLA at least 40+ visits over the years, and lots of time in the French quarter, and I'd say Bourbon Street is avoided about 99% of the time. A non-local may not know how dangerous alleys, and side streets can be, and just being on Bourbon street is a good way to get in trouble, too. The crime is never just a robbery or pickpocket, but senseless violence.
I have never found the finest restaurants even remotely expensive there, though....share where you went

It's a dice roll on whether or not you get sick:

Warm water oysters have huge levels of vibrio, especially if it's the summer.

If you're on something like a PPI that lowers your acid production, you're even more likely to get sick from them.

Southern cuisine is good for many things, but raw shellfish is not one of them.

i've even has good oysters from alabama; you guys have clear water. ours is brown and most of our local marine life lives happily in salt or fresh water. idk bro mississippi estuary is good crabs and shrimp, but everything else is dodgy, full of chemical and heavy metal pollution and parasites. i feel the same way about the chesapeake and hudson bays. chesapeake oysters are fucking foul

Have had them.
Typically spend 2-3 weeks a year in Florida.

Have also gotten sick off them. Warm water oysters carry increased risks.

Given the choice on a menu, Blue Points, Malpeques, or bust.

not sure, desu i work in the great lakes region now an our seafood comes from all over, so whenever i am shucking particularly shitty oysters, i always checck th tag to see where they are from, rather than the specific breed or heritage. i have shuced maybe three or four oysters from the chesapeake area, including virginia beach and they were all watery, brittle as fuck and full of crabs and worms. even some that looked alright inside, the shells were so flaky, every fourth one you opened you'd chip into some reeking povket of muddy death that would spoil the whole oyster or they'd get so chipped and damaged in shipping, half of them were bled out and dead.

i'm sur there are better quality or deeper water oysters that are available locally, but everything i have seen from there was something i wouldn't put in my mouth. i did shuch and sell them, though, i'' try some next time we get some in.
