It takes 8 to 12 years of study to be able to pour a cup of tea in Japan.

why is japanese cuisine so hilariously bad?
the main staple dish of nipponland is sushi which is literally just fish on rice
their curry is just watered soup
ramen is just inferior version of authentic Chinese noodles
even instant noodles is taiwanese (Chinese) and not from japan

why could the nips not make a satisfactory cuisine?

I know this is rhetorical: you could if you want to go over the many nuances of tea from variety, preparation methods, and presentation. Tea ceremony in japan for matcha is all about exact procedural execution of many little steps.

Eating authentic Omakase (not Americanized garbage) is like a religious experience. Theres not many other foods than can come close to it.

That impressive but who cares if people just want some tea and 99% can't tell the difference.

Ever hear about that story of the monk who had some yokel carry heavy shit up a mountain for no reason? Their senses of humor are just a little different I guess.
It's this fascination as old as civilization that believes to the core that any practice of another culture or country is justifiable and unquestionable.

Americans just have a hard time with this because we have little culture overall.

>so pointlessly complicated?
Not pointlessly: it's a deliberate development of social classism, where the more powerful people deliberately render culture as inaccessible as possible to the rest of the people to avoid mobility between classes. This mindset then trickles down and the fractioning continues. It's just a way to shit on those below you while you get shat on by those above you. Pic related.

I wish this was a joke. My grandparents and parents used to run a bakery in South Korea. I was honestly taught this weird and complicated way to make cakes. One of the things was how our emotions will determine what the cake taste like. I ended up working at a grocery store bakery when I lived in America and no one gave two shits about what their cakes tasted like. You were just expected to shit out a certain amount in a time frame.

Why do the Japanese hate flavor so much? Seriously, aside from umami, they have nothing. I once bought a chocolate bar in Japan and it tasted like brown wax.
