The first time I saw a Long John Silver’s restaurant in 1976, was from the outside, and it looked like a family seafood restaurant with wait service, like Red Lobster. So I asked my new girlfriend out on a seafood dinner date. We got dressed as one would for a dinner date. When we walked in and I saw that it was a fast food restaurant, I was mortified, and I was sure she thought what a cheap skate to bring her to a fast food restaurant on a first date. But we stayed and had dinner. She eventually married me. I took her out on better dates. But you can’t mention Long John Silver’s without the story coming up about our first date at a fast food restaurant . I’m sorry to see them decline. That restaurant closed years ago and the closest one to us is 20 miles away.

Ours just reopened a couple years ago after being shuttered for 6 years. New owners took over the franchise, cleaned it up, got rid of the health department issues, and it's been doing great business ever since.

I love LJS, their grilled fish is excellent and has less calories than the breaded fish, which is excellent too. Then there is the shrimp, Bubba Gump doesn't have anything on LJS shrimp. Good fries and I do not understand people who say their food is greasy, you want greasy go to KFC. It doesn't seem so greasy anymore. I usually get grilled cod and 8 shrimp. Yes it's expensive for fast food, but have you been to Five Guys, Whataburger and In and Out Burger? Long John's doesn't seem so expensive when Five Guys is $10+ for their smallest burger and fries. Sure they give you a ton of fries, but it's still expensive.
Luckily we have one in our small city and it is pretty close by.
