16058646 No.16058646 [Reply] [Original]

What are some cheaper foods that are commonly enjoyed by “upper crust” type of people?

My mind always goes back to the old grey poupon mustard commercials where you see the yuppie looking guy sitting in the back of a rolls royce or on a train eating what seems to be a cold cut and salad platter. I also know that the author and creator of James Bond, Ian Fleming, used to say 1 of Bond’s favorite meals was cold roast beef with potato salad. 2 commonplace food items eaten by the epitome of classy gentlemen. I always found that eating a “platter” of charcuterie seems a hundred times classier than opening up a deli package and eating the slices straight out of it

What are some other ones? Scrambled eggs (with heavy cream, shallots and chives) seems to be another classy yet inexpensive contender

If it's inexpensive it's not a rich people food.

In fact, if you're poor and you eat something, there's no possible way it could be a rich person food.

Actual rich people food isn't expensive because of the ingredients, its expensive because they pay a personal chef to make it for them.

If you want to see what a truly rich person eats, look for the most obnoxiously hipster food you can find on IG, because it's either that or straight fast food for the uber wealthy

Another is anything local to an internationally known food region:

There's locally made Napa wines, SF bakery goods/meats, Gilroy garlic goods, and Martinelis(Watsonville)/Casa de Fruita, all in day trip range of me.

Plus I have a large farmers market within walking distance, replete with fresh caught seafood from Santa Cruz/Monterey. Fresh ceviche, too.

No they absolutely are not the same. They're interrelated, but distinct. Yuppies are "High-Earner-Not-Rich-Yet.", HENRYs, aspirational young professionals whose cultural mode is heavily influenced by older models of status and success. So they're heavily influenced by WASP culture, among many others, but tend to blend into featureless cosmopolitanism regardless of their "original flavor". To use the two words interchangeably is absurd.

>> No.16059649

Yuppies are colorblind. Outwardly, at least. There's plenty of white yuppies but they really come from all different walks of life, they just end up passing through a business-school or cybersecurity-program at some point.

"hipster" IG food is just that, and it's tweenage content.

Real uhnwi/hnwi pay for expensive ingredients and that is a marker for them. You can literally open their fridge/pantry and find brands you wouldn't find in your middle class grocery stores. Imagine that little corner aisle which has the expensive cheese and crackers, except the whole store is like this. Most people should be familiar with Whole Foods and some maybe Baron's as examples of stores with unique products and labels. These companies tailor themselves differently in affluent areas.

In my area there are niche and boutique grocers. Next door to me is a little place called Stehly Farms Market. Everything is organic and the store is six or seven blocks from our ex-mayor's house.

Quality proteins that are difficult to get and higher grades of everything, including produce. If they shop themselves they have access to better products in their local stores. If they do not it is as you described, prepared.

Some wealthy folks literally eat whatever and don't care. In my experience especially with produce. Dining out is a different matter and again they will pay more for quality protein while the rest of us are eating mutant chicken.

Rich people eat food prepared by someone who knows what they're doing.
Eg. order any restaurant/fast food joint meals. they taste fine, provide pleasure hormones and you just pick different place to eat from each time so it doesnt get boring.
Private chefs accomplish the tasty + variety in a kitchen thats in your home but aren't better than the restaurants doing what they know best.

Ingredients aren't better because they're more expensive but if you're going for unique and highest end ingredients to provide a meal someone hasn't eaten before everythings going to end up relatively expensive due to economics of scale.
