It's one of the most relaxing feelings of satisfaction you can get. It can be exhausting too, travel is like that. I remember having partied or "entertained" for three days and nights straight in New Orleans and just being wiped out, I didn't get to try any food. But I ate alone exhausted at a hotel bar and had the best gumbo of my life. Flew out 3 hours later to my home town of San Diego and got a great nights sleep.

When I do Vegas I always take a week so I can visit friends that live there and party. Even then I break away every time to a White Castle. I guess that doesn't count because fast food etc. but whatever. When I'm busy I'll go somewhere to get food in between.

I just don't get this eating alone thing being a problem.

Rats, bats, and other pests. Shopping centres are bad enough, but airports are about a thousand times worse. No matter how much work is done, they're always there. When you show up in the middle of the night for work when things have died down, you can usually hear them in the ceilings.
Sealed drywall ceilings mean all the shit and detritus they leave behind can only come out through the access hatches. Meanwhile, with accessible open-plenum ceilings like tbar ceilings, that shit is just resting on a half inch of easily moved tile. One small bump sends tonnes of that shit raining down and all over the place.

Sure, we try to clean up after ourselves, but the fact is they're not showing up to do a deep clean first thing in the morning on their opening shift. All that powdered ratshit is there.

International airports all around the world have pest problems. They're massive monstrous complexes that go through more food waste in a day than an average-sized city. Planes coming in and out are dumping loads of waste to add to the amount produced in the terminals. They're magnets for all sorts of local pests, and for image reasons the airport authorities will not allow pest control companies to have a visible presence (no workers in uniform, no visible traps, no poisoned bait). After all, what's a couple scuttling noised in the ceiling at night compared to someone posting a video online of a poisoned rat that drowned itself in the open water feature?

Maintenance workers, which actually work for the airports, are typically union. Construction (both renovation and new development) is usually done by external contractors, who may or may not be union. The company I'm with right now is not union, but they've been getting contracts through the local international airport and a few of the other airfields in the region for over fifty years. It's consistent work for pretty much any contractor if they get an in with an airport (where the definition of "good job" is surprisingly loose thanks to all the red tape meaning delays are guaranteed). I used to travel a lot working on specialized programmable lighting systems for a certain brand, but now I've settled down for the time being.

My man you have no idea how long and how deep America has lived rent free. My country partially exists because of the American civil war.
