I'm not sure its totally stupidity. It's more like cows are herd animals, and many herd animals (especially herbivores) will calf at the same time. Mothers will die and other mothers will adopt babies and produce more milk. Humans selected for the milk production and cows were easy to milk compared to other animals (hence why we don't have pig milk. Allegedly pig milk is actually better than cow milk but it's virtually impossible to milk a pig without sneaking up on a sow while she is asleep)

Girlfriend is vegetarian and finds feeding meat to our son gross. A vegan friend got so butt hurt finding their toddler eating meat at a party that they took them home after saying "we don't eat meat because we don't condone the killing of animals" which is cool, but from my perspective a toddler has no concept of killing or what meat production means. I'd just distract them from the food and then move them onto something else without burdening them with disgust or shame or concepts which don't make any sense for them like killing or meat production let alone taking them home outraged.

At work we basically regulate people eating gross hot food through bullying. If somebody wants to heat up a stinky fish pie they are going to have to roll with some shit. The team naturally regulate their behaviour because they are normal people who understand other humans. We all have bad days and maybe we are feeling nauseous and something that usually won't bother us causes a problem so occasionally we ask for a concession and people grant it because again, humans being normal understanding human behaviour as part of a team. If I have to deal with a vegan member of staff who decides that meat is unacceptable and the smell makes them sick all the time they should understand that meat consumption is normalised in our society and something they are going to encounter except in specialised workplaces. If the problem is such that policy needs to be created to deal with it we are no longer a cohesive team. You've got resentment from all sides, people who weaponise policy to make trouble because they are frustrated, passive aggressive policing each other etc.

Honestly anybody wants to make a massive issue out of it and can't work with a team and demands policy changes to force it to be more like what they want I'm going to find a reason to fire when they fuck up because I'll replace them with somebody who can work as part of a team.

I'm not vegan or vegetarian. I have been vegetarian. I eat a really small amount of meat and I don't see that changing. I do see the commodification and industrial exploitation of animals as a resource in the face of increasing populations and less availability of resources to be a problem which needs an ideological shift so I understand veganism, to them it seems like the most direct solution. We can debate the function of canine teeth and if meat is essential for optimal health all we want, but if meat production starts to starve people and cut off access to drinking water then it isn't ethical irrespective of your position on animal suffering. Most meat eaters are eating a lot of cheap meat and that is going to have to change. Not going to ban meat. Not going to tell you what you can and can't eat.
