Jews always complain about not enough meat, so the deli Jew started giving absurd amounts of it. They almost never finish it though. They just want extra meat, because if they don't that means there's more meat left over for somebody else.

If you've ever lived in NYC the typical deli sandwich is stacked just like that for half the price. I always bought them to take home and split into two sandwiches, because who wants to eat 2 inches of meat besides hookers?

>> No.15619985

>>15619951
It isnt a nyc thing. There is a Katz's in Houston of all places. There are delis all over. I assumed OP was bitching about the price, but 15 dollars for 2 pounds of brisket is fair. Then i read the thread and everyone else is amazed at how much meat. So i included the they didnt lie to you part. because i have been to a deli before.

I am not sure why you are flexing that you have been to a real nyc deli once. But im guessing you havent been to many delis or are just really fucking stupid.

That’s not a sandwich lol

It’s a pile of meat with a bit of bread. I have nothing against piles of meat - I literally just ate one (see >>15620555) and I’m sure that pile of corned beef brisket is quite delicious. I’d probably quite enjoy it.

But when I want a Reuben, I want a manageable sandwich with appropriate proportions that I can enjoy holding in my and taking normal bites, like pic related.

I'm starting to feel it too, as an American. Growing up in the 90s and 00s, I didn't feel any offense to our excess and waste. It felt natural, affordable, sustainable. But now things are so fucked up. We have energy shortages, food shortages, housing shortages, riots etc. and its starting to seem more and more inappropriate to be opulent and wasteful. I think if they dropped prices and gave more reasonable portion sizes, people would actually appreciate it. This kind of excess is just inappropriate and bizarre in [current year].

Fun fact: all of you enjoying great Reuben around the country are enjoying the pastrami art carried by people who couldn't afford New York rent anymore. Katz and a few smaller dives are the only places with the old Jewish pastrami style, while places in Michigan, Texas, and California carry on the brine method.
