Those niggas payed $1500 ($6400 in 2021 money) for an Idlewild to Chicago flight you pay $110 for the same flight. You can drop another grand to go to a 3* Michelin restaurant and still have money to buy a Hyundai so joke's on them crusty old white people.

Back then flying was a much smaller industry, so it cost much more money relatively and they'd offer fancier services because the customers were basically all flying in the equivalent of first class. This made flying seem like a special occasion for most people, so they'd dress up in fine clothes just for riding on the plane, and the entire image was curated around one of luxury. Planes back then were also significantly louder, slower, and more prone to feeling turbulence than modern planes, and the service was seen as a way to distract from all of that.

Flight service isn't so good today for the average flyer, but the tradeoff is that the flights are significantly cheaper, quieter, faster, and less prone to feeling turbulence (still happens but the average flight is way smoother than they used to be). You can experience all of the luxuries from the golden age today, you just have to pay for first class seating on a 3+ hour flight, which is still cheaper relative to an average ticket back then.

Yes, they put ice in the cup and only pour about a third of the can in. The next person who orders the same flavor gets the next third and so on until it's empty.

It’s even better on international flights; they typically have a very nice wine/beer/liquor list and they’ll keep bringing you as much as you want. Unless you get shitfaced and cause problems, obviously.

The only alcohol I have found good on a flight is beer. I am pretty sure it is the altitude, but wine and liquors do not taste right.

>> No.15594494

>>15594439
I’m usually not too big on wine while flying, but you’re right that beer is really good. The liquors with “stronger” flavors seem to be okay to me, as are cocktails with stronger flavors (like a spicy bloody mary).
If I’m flying over an ocean, I usually just throw back a handful of shots so I can fall asleep easy.

>> No.15594513

gin and tonic/vodka tonic seemed to be neutral flavored enough to taste fine. It is definitely an effect of the altitude/pressure.

Yup, altitude is well known to dull one’s sense of taste.
That’s why (good) in-flight meals are over seasoned, so they’ll taste “correct” in the air.
