Do dishwashers clean your plates well? My confidence in them decreased after watching a video of the cleaning process. Seems like it just lightly splashes water on the dishes and nothing more.

It's basically boiling water and some mild detergents to release some of the food and stains. It cleans and sanitizes better than hand washing every fucking time. I refuse to eat off of hand washed dishes and 9 times out of 10 put pots, pans, knives etc that aren't dishwasher safe in there because I want them to be sanitized.

It's not "splashes water", they're jets of scalding hot water. At least they're supposed to be. The video clearly isn't scalding hot water that steams up the inside near instantly. The whole point is to soften or melt the gunk and then blast them off one way or the other while also spreading the detergent to the whole surface. Household dishwashers might not actually get the job done often if it's crusted up shit that's been allowed to dry/stay caked on because they're not hot enough but that's because you're retarded for not pre-soaking/washing in the first place. Also they won't work if you jam pack that shit in there so much that they are overlapping each other so the water jets don't reach sections of the surfaces. I still don't understand point of the flat plate full of water there that only seems to exist to block the water jets.

>>15582862
The point of the pre-soak is to get all the big chunks out so that (a) the dishwasher only has to do the actual cleaning on the whole plate instead of you awkwardly rubbing shit on and around your plate while fumbling around with your hands with your gross-ass sponge, and (b) because the dishwasher isn't a magical portal of darkness that won't get clogged when you throw in chunks of food and other shit into it.

The dishwasher is going to do a better job of whatever you do by hand anyway.

>>15582882
>For people saying the dishes aren't clean, the dishwasher is on a pre-rinse cycle, which is why it's done in 8 mins. Also if he had used a normal cycle the hot water would immediately steam up the camera and we wouldn't see anything xo

This video is only applicable in places where you have food disposal through the waste pipes. In the UK the dishwasher has a filter at the bottom of it that you have to clean if you leave food on your plates when they go in the dishwasher. I'd rather do a quick rinse before I put my dishes in than have to clean out a gunked up filter.

>> No.15584419

Did anyone tell OP that the dishwasher uses the dirty water for the first cycle?

In order to conserve water, it fills the tank up and squirts that shit onto the dishes. All the food particles and gravy then falls into the water colllecting area, where the dishwasher sucks up all that soup and sprays it back all over your dishes.

And yeah, the dishwasher probably does a better job at cleaning your dishes than handwashing, because it sanitizes them.

Also, if you need to pre-rinse/clean your dishes, your machine is shit.

end of the day, dishwashers are best used if you live with a large family or have like 5-6 housemates.
if you live by yourself just go the disposable chopsticks, paper plates route and the only thing you'll ever need to clean is the frypan you used to cook with.
give it a wash and rinse and your dishes are done in 30sec.

Ok, then please start hand washing your plates with +65°C water for over one hour straight and maybe I'll believe you.

>> No.15587100

You don't HAVE to scrape the big chunks off the dishes, but if you DO, it's easier to clean the sump screen later.
If your dishwasher is having problems getting things clean, a scrape and a prerinse for any sticky stuff can help.
You should probably run the hot water for a minute anyway; may as well catch it in the sink, a quick dip to loosen off any sticky chunks, and then the dishes can go into the washer for sanitizing and residue removal.

Sticking a whole bowl of stew in the machine without dumping it out is patently dumb, even if "well, technically, it should work".
You know this.
The machine is better at cleaning the dishes when there is less stuff on them.
Scrape always, prerinse... maybe.
Prewash and use it as a fancy sanitizing rinse/dry if nothing else works, but you should probably get your water softener fixed and stop using detergent packs.

Dish washers don't clean dishes, they sanitize them. I always wash dishes like this:
>put it all in the sink
>get sink water running as hot as it will go
>plug the sink and pour in a little dish soap, fill the sink with hot soapy water
>let that sit until it cools down enough for me to put my hands in
>pick out dishes and start scrubbing at them with a rough sponge
>load them in the dish washer
>run sani-rinse with a little packet of anti-streak chemical if there's glassware
You clean them by hand, then sterilize them in the dish washer.
