I have been led to believe that chicken and dumplings is a southern dish just because it takes southern humidity to turn them into dumplings on your kitchen table. Lined with newspaper.

Everybody here is wrong. Fried chicken is the greatest southern dish. Not only was it perfected by the south, but it's applicable to every other global cuisine as well. Proving once again that Americans improve all other cuisines they encounter.

Grits are the most useless food in the south. It's tolerable in shrimp and grits, but I swear there's some unspoken rule that you're supposed to love it, yet I never see anyone I ever dine with finish them.

You fucking nigger, crawfish are probably one of the most tasty crustaceans.
>>15515072
Supposedly it's Scott in origin, but literally so many other places looked at that and thought....I could do that better. And so you have Jap and Korean fried chicken. Midwest fried chicken, and Southern white actual chef chicken. Every fucking chicken place that black trash talks up, and I take the risk and go to those parts of town, are always fucking shit tier.

"Fried chicken" is so incredibly basic it emerged independently in isolated cultures again and again. Any culture who's figured out how to render fat or extract plant oils can go hurr, durr, now lets put dead bird parts in there!
Anyone who tries to claim incredibly basic shit as their own is simply revealing their stupidity.
Regions do have cultural food trends, yes, but you must be specific to define exactly WHY this particular region makes it uniquely different than anyone else on Earth, and document proof that indeed they did it first, claiming exclusive ownership, with all the rigor of a patent application.

Country fried steak is the best, but cornbread dressing and butterbeans over those sides any day. Also regular corn bread, but when I lived in Mississippi the place where I ate country fried steak corn bread came with everything by default so you still got 2 more sides.

I miss it.

>> No.15518927

it isn't pork, but let me break it down for you. Anglo settlers live in western territory, have German Butchers, even some Germans making food. You, Anglo man, go to eat at Hans Biergarten. You ask what is really good, Hans says "Ah! Der Rindflesch Schnitzel ist very good, ya!". You, Anglo American man, have no idea what a schnitzel is, and ask. Hans thinks for a moment and says "I bought der...beef from mein cousin und fry it like der chicken". You think that sounds good, and say "sure hans, I'll have one of them chicken fried steaks!"

If something in a language is an out and out description of the food, it is not native to that language, for the most part.

It's also easy to make. I can make it as good as the best chicken fried steak I've ever had in a restaurant.

Also, your chicken fried steak needs gravy on the mashed potatoes as well.

In my picture, there is at least some gravy on the potatoes. When I cook it, I'll usually have 3 to 4 times that much gravy.
