The biggest factor to that was real sugar rather than high fructose corn syrup. Most grocery stores will sell glass bottle coke imported from mexico that still have real sugar like american coke used to. Grab a bottle of that and a standard can of coke, pour them into glasses and try telling me the mexican coke doesn't taste far better. It's a fucking crime that we've replaced real sugar in soft drinks with corn syrup.

X, not boomer.
Still old enough to remember glass bottle soda.
10 ounce returnables were a bit of a disappointment. That heavy glass did keep the drink cold out of the vending machine, and there was a big wooden crate nearby to stick your empty in. Just small volume
16 ounces were nicer.
Bottles would go back to the soda factory to be washed and refilled.
They also had non-returnables; thinner glass. These usually had reclosable lids.
Plastic bottles or aluminum cans weigh less, but don't keep the drink as cold, leading to neoprene can condoms.

that wasn't the case. Not everything. Gatorade and Powerade and soft drinks it was almost always all plastic unless you having a pepsi in some small town diner. Same thing with juice it was again pretty much all plastic and tetra packs unless you were getting some organic 1990s hippy juice. Milk was in cartons, or bags if you're canadian.

>>15501542
Yeah Snapple was literally the one thing on a large scale commercial level that was still in glass bottles.

There was also bawls guarana drink that predates red bull by I don't know how many years, and it could come in a nice blue glass bottle, but that stuff was a lot more niche.

Bullshit. Gatorade powder mix with ice tastes way better than the plastic bottled stuff. It's part temperature, part real sugar. The drink is basically just citric acid, dextrose powder and sugar for carbohydrates, sodium citrate for electrolytes, and calcium. I don't even know if Lemon-lime has any additional flavorings beyond citric acid. It's basically kool aid with salt.

Goddamn plastic.
>go fishing - plastic everywhere

Plastic fucking sucks because it doesn't degrade quickly and because it's incredibly hard to recycle. Since plastic is hard to recycle (most plastic people send to be recycled actually isn't) nobody pays for it, so there's little incentive for bums or whoever to go around picking it up. Then the plastic ends up in the ocean, and we've got microplastics everywhere and it's a goddamn nightmare. FUCK PLASTIC. I'd be happy to never see single use plastics ever again.

I worked for a time as a large scale baker, and during that time I came to absolutely hate the smell and taste of processed cane sugar. I don't know if anyone has ever noticed because of the volume, but when you have a large amount of processed cane sugar (any brand), it fucking stinks to high heaven. After a while I felt like I could taste it as well, and ever since then I have preferred drinks sweetened with HFCS, and I feel like people who disagree are just full of shit or fooling themselves. That being said, the best possible sweetener for drinks would be, in my educated opinion, inverted glucose syrup.

Double blind taste tests have shown that people can't tell between real sugar and corn syrup better than random chance. Also Mexican Coke is a marketing ploy to upsell product; Coke produced for the domestic Mexican market uses corn syrup while the Coke produced for export is produced with sugar.
