Its nice but remains something I will never do in my kitchen.
Simple truth is your pan must be SMOKING hot... not wisps of smoke, but clouds of it, along with intensely splattering, aerosol droplets of grease, which WILL leave your stove, cabinets, and floors a disgusting smelly mess that is a royal bitch to clean up. If your smoke alarm doesnt indicate 9-11 part two, then you are not cooking steak correctly.
That would be a hell no in my house. Its even worse than deep frying, which is also a non-starter.
Just let the steakhouse do it for you... or move it outside to a rippin' hot charcoal grill. Steak seared like that is classified in the "dont try this at home" category, along with pizza that needs a 800 degree oven, and stir fry that needs an ultra high heat wok. Lovely, but impractical, and no shortcut can avoid the ultra high heat requirements. Its just not as good.

holly shit youre an idiot. i hate electric as much as the next guy but they are extremely efficient. Also, its a retarded lie that they dont heat up the pan enough, they are better at putting out heat than your average home cooks gas stove. No reason to be proud of your shitty rented apartment that has a 50y old gas stove, a decent electric is far superior in every way.
If you can get an industrial stove then good for you, if not then electric is probably the better solution. Also, electric != induction
