Does anyone make their own dog/cat food? Is it cheaper or at least worth making compared to shelling out for the premium brands? Also, should doggies eat all of these carbs and veggies that people pack in for filler? I don't see the purpose.

As a huge autistic faggot who's special tard interest is pet food, I strongly do not recommend that you make your own dog food. If you fuck up, which is likely without specialized education, you'll fuck up your dog and potentially shorten their lifespan, if not outright kill them. Here's what you need to know.

Dogs are opportunistic carnivores and require a balanced diet of meats and vitamins from various fruits and vegetables. Optimal nutrition is ~80% of their protein coming from animal sources, ~20% vitamins, minerals, and digestive supplements coming from fruits and veggies.

You want to stay away from corn, soy, wheat, legumes, potatoes as best you can. Those are all cheap filler ingredients that are there for fudging calorie numbers and saving money in manufacturing. Pet food business will pit the wheat/soy/corn against the legumes/potatoes, but they're both shit. If any of that shit is in the first five ingredients, you ditch it. If you're buying raw pet food, it should not be in there whatsoever.

Onto the proteins. Red meat, including beef, bison, pork, and lamb are good for hardening up stools and for high energy breeds. Poultry, such as chicken, turkey, duck, quail, what have you, they're more versatile and typically more palatable for dogs with weaker stomachs. Fish, including salmon, sardines, anchovies, tuna, haddock, they're the easiest to digest and are essential for skin and coat function. Rare sources of protein like venison, gator, kangaroo are good for allergies.

For fruits and vegetables, you need to do close research on the toxicity of them to dogs. Most dogs despise citrus, but apples, bananas, blueberries, cranberries, oranges, peaches, pears, carrots, broccoli, peas, and green beans are generally safe and have the vitamins and minerals required.

If the dog is an adult, I would add probiotics and prebiotics, taurine, and glucosamine as supplements.

Just buy raw pet food if you give that much of a shit.

don't just buy raw. if you truly have the MONEY to buy a home-made diet, get a fucking nutritionist to make it for you. making diets is not as easy as you think, it's not just adding some "supplements". Diets need to be balanced, and adding pre/pro biotics, taurine, glucosamin, and a mix of veggies isn't going to just cut it.
Also, corn is a great source of protein.
Chicken is actually one of the top 3 contributors to food allergies in dogs. Probably not the best for most dogs with food allergies and "weak" stomachs.

If you're looking for raw diets, Primal, Northwest Naturals and Tucker's are easily available and look to balance the meats with vitamins, minerals, and supplements from fruits and vegetables. You can buy freeze-dried or frozen depending on your preference in terms of prepwork. Be prepared to spend about 200+ dollars a month on raw if you have a large dog.

If you're looking for the best dry food, I'm a fan of rotational diets so I don't get fucked over on recalls. That means you rotate brands fairly often, typically I do it every year or so. As of this exact moment in time, I like to rotate between Orijen, Nulo, but only the Challenger and Freestyle lines, Farmina N&D, and Fromm's Four-Star Nutritionals lines, both grain-free and grain-inclusive. Note that I do not 100% love or trust any of these lines intrinsically and they all fall short in some area or another.

Other brands and lines have their pros and cons and I could ramble about them all day, but I still feel confident regarding the listed spread in terms of who owns and manufactures each company's pet food. I keep up on pet food news regularly so I know when a brand sells to the big corps that have gone and buried countless independent companies and spread lies and deceit to maximize profit like the filthy kikes they are. Always keep up on whether they jew out.

If you're absolutely total poorfag mode but you want to reduce the chance of recalls while maximizing budget, I'd suggest a rotational diet of Nulo Frontrunner, Fromm Gold, NutriSource, Taste of the Wild, maybe FirstMate if you can find it. They have a lot of fillers and not all of them are owned by my favorite companies, but you will avoid the Big Four garbage brands of Mars, Nestle, Smucker's, and Hill's. They've essentially bought out all veterinarians and are the reason faggot kikes like these >>15371202 exist and say stupid shit like how corn is great when we can see evidence in their literal own shit that they don't digest corn.

You remind of that guy who had to write a script whenever he wanted to order delivery.

>probiotics
Unless your dog just went through a course of antibiotics that's kind of pointless

>prebiotics, taurine, and glucosamine
Pseudoscience, you actively want to avoid "prebiotics" also known as FODMAPs because they can easily lead to bacterial overgrowth, bloating, and indigestion.

Making your dog eat glucosamine isn't going to do anything for his joints and ligaments. How would that work? Does every cell in your body looks up some kind of traffic log of what's entering your stomach and saying, "hey don't digest that, we might need that all the way in the metatarsals. Figure out how to ship it here."

Diabetic dog. He gets chicken and lean beef, since pork and all fatty meats give him diarrhea. He won't eat fish anymore, but he used to get that, too. He's pickier than he used to be with vegetables, but he'll eat zucchini, peppers, butternut squash, yellow squash, and banza for fiber. He usually won't eat the same thing two days in a row. I consult with his vet to make sure he's getting the right amount of carbs, fiber, and vitamins.

it's cute that you made this your hobby but your guide is probably for pure breeds which are extremely delicate and usually result from incest. I've only had bastard dogs, fed them cheap canned dog meat jelly from eurospin mixed with wet bread leftover the neighbors give me. None of them had stomach issues, illnesses of any kind, or died before 12 yrs of age. Just don't give them sugar stuff like ice cream and chocolate
