Because it was one of the first cafes in the country, back when Americans were starting to appreciate coffee that wasn't from a gas station.
>>15147902
Because it jumped on the trends of "ethnic" food and fast-casual dining with higher quality than the usual sloppa.

Where did this Chipotle is bland meme come from? I worked there 10 years ago while I was in college. First of all, everything is made fresh in house except for the chicken adobo which comes in bags but is incredibly flavorful. The food is best when it's busy because the meat is constantly coming fresh off the grill. Literally everything in Chipotle is made exactly in a way that you'd do it at home. Freshly made salsa, guac, grilled meats, veggies. I mean, I don't know what the fuck else you faggots want.

What a fucking dumb idiotic fucking meme to project. God damn fucking moron. Its literally not bland and not a single argument can be made to substantiate this claim
>As I've already stated the adobo marinade is incredibly flavorful and uses a variety of peppers and seasonings
>The steak has its own marinade that is also a little bit spicy and very flavorful
>The guac and pico are made with fresh ingredients including jalapenos, red onions, and plenty of salt, cilantro, and lime juice.
>Literally lime and cilantro in the rice
>The beans are cooked with bacon
>Everything is fresh

No one can substantiate their fucking bland claim or make any real argument for its truth. Fucking IDIOTS.

Everyone forgets chipotle started out at the same price point as other fast food places, chipotle may not be particularly good but 7.50 for a whole ingredient and freshly made fully customized burrito vs some piece of shit meal from mcdonald's or burger king for the same price is no contest for someone with a short lunch break and college kids. Chipotle also became popular during the late 2000 and early 2010s and that time period had seen super size me go viral, increasing distaste for processed food, and people were souring on fast food in general - this and the ensuing customer interest in fresh casual lunch vs fast food actually caused the erratic menu schizophrenia between classic cheap food and attempting desperately to have a veneer of fresh food from mcdonald's and the general decline in taco bell/burger king etc. since then. Chipotle was in the right place at the right time with a business model ready to go.

Chipotle just opened up a restaurant in my town. I got a barbacoa bowl and the beef tasted good. They were doing a lot of business and you could see people in the back cooking food. You pretty much have to add a bit of chipotle hot sauce though, otherwise the bowl is on the bland side overall.

They had no lettuce because California was on fire or whatever and I guess that's the only place in the world lettuce is grown.

Farmers, if you want to make money grow lettuce to sell next time California is on fire which it will be forever until it falls into the ocean

pic related is typical California lettuce farmer tending his crops

Its not the same anymore anon.

Chicken comes premarinated. Steak comes premarinated and precooked.

Liquid salsa comes pre-made.

Peppers and onions come presliced.

The only thing they make in house still is guac, mild, and corn.

Thats why its bland. Its corporate, soulless shit now.

Carnitas aren't bland. Americans like bland stuff so they make them only with pork shoulder (blandest part of the pork).

Real carnitas are made with ribs, organ meat, skin, and basically anything that can be eaten from the pork.

I've always liked Chipotle. Never had a bad experience with it until a week ago. For the first time ever, I ordered it with Uber Eats and the food was completely flavorless. It tasted like nothing was seasoned at all. I've eaten cold Chipotle plenty of time, so I don't think the delivery time was a problem.
