Haven't tried the over route yet for the steam effect, but when they're inside the plastic (open at just one end) they get steamed anyway because they water particles are excited and cause steam inside the sleeve, right?
I can't imagine them tasting much better and I've only tried them microwaved. Unbelievable.

I use one of those folding steamer trays, put them on tin foil on top of that and drop it in a stock pot and steam them. I live near a White Castle and eat the fresh ones all the time. Yes it's 10x better than microwaving them. Legit tastes like the fresh ones if you steam them correctly.

A buddy and I made steamed sliders "from scratch" on his griddle and they were great. We used King's Hawaiian rolls (the """savory""" ones) for the buns. Absolutely top tier food.

Several years ago an anon did an OC thread where he duplicated white castles. Looked spot on.

Frozen ones taste just like White Castle restaurant ones that have been frozen and reheated. So they're very good, but not quite as good but by nature of being something that was frozen and reheated rather than straight off the grill.

And yes, White Castle sliders are very delicious. The key is that they're cooked on beds of steaming onions, both the patty and bun, it's the moist onion goodness that seeps throughout the burger that makes it so good.

Got a White Castle near my house. I stop by there sometimes after work and get 4 sliders with cheese, 9 piece chicken ring with honey mustard, a side of fries and a sweet tea. That shit hits the spot.

mild onion flavor helps. no huge slices of raw onion. mellow. i love raw and sauteed, but sometimes you want the tiny reconstituted onions. seriously. and nothing gets in the way, like vinegary condiments. i would eat white castle all the time if we had one (frozen only), and im a stone cold foodie.
