Who else here spending Thanksgiving alone? What will you cook?

>> No.15067526

I'm always alone for the holidays. It'll be okay, stranger. Just don't wallow in your self pity, make something you like, and call some family. You'll get through it.

Baked turkey leg and/or breast depending on what looks good and I can find, mashed potatoes, corn bread stuffing, yams (not too sweet), brussels sprouts with bacon and garlic, cranberry sauce, buttery biscuits, and gravy. Maybe do some Lil' Smokies simmered in BBQ sauce with crackers and cheese and gherkins while I lazily whip everything together.

COVID is no different for me, sadly, my parents have been dead for years and I come from a really small family so... par for the course. I make myself something nice, read in front of the fire, and end the night by watching A Christmas Story (as Thanksgiving was traditionally the first day it played on TBS when I was young).

I'm 40 and was an MST3k fan since before I could drive. I'll bake a ham and two sides and have a "turkey day" marathon like I did as a kid.

I'm living in a hotel. Moved to the other side of the country for work, they're putting me up here until I find a place to live, which appears to be December at the earliest. Not a chance I'll be able to cook a full Thanksgiving dinner in here, there's barely tools to make soup. No way in hell am I getting on a plane, and my closest family member is 3k miles away. Normally, I'd look for one of those "expat's thanksgiving" events, but I'm guessing those are all shut down this year thanks to the big coof.

I am. I figure what I'll do is go to Costco, get a few of those $5 chickens and use those to make a curry chicken pot pie. I don't do anything fancy, I just follow Ina Garten's food network recipe and toss a block of Japanese curry mix into the filling before I portion it out and put it into the oven.

Either that or get my self a prime rib cut and reverse sear that with a hasselback potato on the side, with maybe some creamed spinach (will probably get lazy and buy that).

Unsure yet, but with my sister breaking up with her boyfriend a few days ago, my parents getting their house worked on, and nobody liking my other sister's husband, I'll probably be doing nothing again like last year.

That's ok I guess, I'm on a diet and Thanksgiving is sort of an excuse to binge eat anyway.

Don't be sad, the years go by and things can't help but change. I've spent some holidays with various girlfriends, some with my friend circle, and some alone. COVID is definitely a little more isolating but keep your loved ones as close as you can and make sure they know they're valued.

Spent my first thanksgiving alone last year after a really nasty break up, I still tried to cook but ended up passed out by 7pm. This year I’m in a much better place so I’m excited to be alone. Planning on making stuffing, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and either a turkey wing or chicken. Gonna attempt to make a sweet potato pie too!
