The best kept secret of Costco is their 'business centers'. 40 lb boxes of boneless skinless chicken thighs for $0.85/lb, whole packer USDA Prime beef briskets for like $3.19/lb, and nearly no mexican families with 500 children getting in your way. Costco is all about stocking basic pantry essentials, not specialty items. The produce their is pretty meh and it'll probably go bad before you eat all of it. Meat deals/quality varies a lot from store to store and the value depends on how much freezer space you have and the prices of other stores in your area. It's also a good place to get home supplies like toilet paper, toothpaste, etc. Again, things that you can buy in bulk quantity and store until you need it. Although a friend once tried to argue with me that buying a big pack of toilet paper at Costco was wasteful because "You'd never use it all" as if toilet paper goes bad. Doing it right actually takes a bit of effort because the value changes relative to where it is. Costco's prices are always the same no matter where you go, so in one area their price on a particular item might be a screaming deal but in another part of the country it might not because everyone else sells it for the same or cheaper. When I lived in Alaska Costco was a godsend because everything is more expensive in Alaska, but now that I'm back in the 48 I only go there once in a while to get some bulk stuff and essentials.
