you have the choice of

A) fake meat made with plants
B) bugs

which one will you choose? like for real real

Bugs
They are more nutritious than conventional meat.

Plus they are already being made into burger patties and mince. Hell, most food you eat already has bugs in it.
It's not like eating bugs means you're just eating whole crickets and scorpions straight.

also why would I choose either anyway, theres already good vegan food that doesnt try to be meat, and by 2199 there should be plenty of cheap meat cloning technology

Both are already happening.
You need to come to terms with that.

I'll become a canibal.
But than again, if animals are extinct, so will be humans, as we need an actual biodiverse system. Cows feed and fluff up the earth, chickens destroy pests like ticks, swine redistriute the soil. If you don't have animal husbandry, you wont have any plant matter to eat as well. Synthtic stuff only leads to soil destruction, as the abylonians already learned.

why are bugs so replusive to most humans though?

primates and monkeys eat bugs, carnivores eat bugs, no other animal has a problem with eating bugs except humans

Why is this our only option? Why isn't more money and research being funneled into mushrooms and other fungus as meat alternatives? They are hearty and meaty and require little soil to grow. Totally natural with little to no soy additives or gross bugs.

Bugs are pests and harbor pathogens. They are usually a sign of death and decomposition. You don't want to eat something which migt have feasted on your dead grandmother, nor consume parasites living in them. Last but not least they have ad macros, protein itself isn't everything and they taste like literaly trash slime. There is a reason why you need to deepfry them and put a shitton of spices and dips on them to make them palatable. With tht much effort you can make everything consumable.

all of these can be fixed with farming them in a clean and controlled environment

This is a meme. Genetic engineering as done nothing of benefit to society and you wont make a larvae taste like stake. Instea of trying to shill trash, why not prevent animals from getting extinct? Permafarming and animal husbandry which isn't cages up so that thyron can buy his dollar menue.

You can easily grow all of them you need yourself using the following items:
-wood pellets
-leftover coffee grounds
-a large pressure cooker
-mushroom spawn bags w/ filter patch
-a functioning DIY HEPA laminar flow hood (most expensive thing)

All of this can easily be acquired for a few hundred dollars and then you're in business

Every where I've tried bugs, it usually wasn't just a bug itself, they actually have spices or sauces added to them. Mealworms that are fried and sprinkled with red pepper flakes, or a splash of soy sauce is amazing, even with out they have a nutty flavor. Grass hopper by themselves remind me of peanut butter. Grubs I don't care for, cause they get crunchy on the outside, are all liquidy on the inside. Ants have this zangy sour taste to them which is unique, same time tasty. In the end none of them taste bad. They are rich in protein, more so than beef or chicken. You can spice them to your liking.
