Are there any other cognac fans on /ck/? Do you have a favorite cognac? For me, it's Hennessy V.S.

Pictured is Remy Martin's Louis XIII, one of the most expensive cognacs.

I'm a cheap motherfucker so the only Brandy I have is a pint of E&J XO. It's not amazing but I enjoy it for what it is

Has anyone tried Camus vsop? I saw a bottle but didn’t get it.

It's brandy, but from a special region of France and with special distilling and aging requirements.

>> No.14882893

>>14882801
It’s like wine with more alcohol, and there are some additional flavors from the aging. But it will have the distinct flavor of the grapes in it.

Most expensive spirit out there and hard to get into, because of the limited selection in most countries. Generally unpopular except Hennessy and Remy Martin and getting informations about specific bottles isn't even close as easy as with scotch for example.
Kinda living from its old money reputation, but it has a distinctive taste other brandies don't have or fail to replicate.

Courvoisier VS is my go to. Some cognacs are a bit too boozy for my taste, armagnac is a smoother.

>> No.14883037

>>14882850
Also, these requirements don't do anything good to the flavor, people just buy it to show off.

Nothing classes up a place like a couple bottles of cognac in the liquor cabinet.

i had some of that non-nigger shit once - the real french quality shit that a local wine sommelier recommended at the town liquor store's wine tasting/gathering. it was wonderfully smooth.

it's not he fucking same as brandy, anyone who tells you differently is either black or trying to sell you something and generally knows nothing about what the word 'difference' means.

I don't mind brandy, but they're terrible value.
VSOPS can be good but all taste a little youthful, and XO only guarantees you a 10 year old which is still young but costs an arm and a leg. Meanwhile I can pick up 15-18 year old scotch at those prices which are substantially better.

It's weird, brandy, cognac, and tequila are the only hard liquors I like. I can't get into whiskey at all.

>> No.14884307

Brandy is kinda meh. Much prefer getting pinched in the mouth with flavours from whiskey.

Mostly a whisky drinker but got bored one night and got a few different pours of Hennessy and Remy Martin, don't remember which ones. They're pretty darn good honestly, may need to add a few cognacs and armagnacs to my collection one day

Have had a shot's worth of Louis XIII. Was good, not amazing. Meme shit at a high end- steak house. My dad's buddy bought the last bit of the bottle. Forgot how much it cost him, but it was hefty. He'd always wanted one of the bottles, so he said fuck it. About 8-10 shots' worth. I forget, I was underage at the bar hangin' with my dad and his buddies when I was like 19 and the guy offered me a bit of it. Cool of him.

Had Louis XIII once. It was great, but not thousands of dollars great.

My current favorite is Hine Homage Grand Cru. Not cheap, but it’s a great sipper for the end of the night.

Brandy is a spirit distilled from fruit. Traditionally wine grapes, but apples also have a strong tradition. It’s barrel aged and most of the big brands come from France, but there are producers in Spain, the US and South America.

To me, it’s a smoother, comfier drink than whiskey. I like whiskey, but some are very aggressive. Brandy is more refined and easier to relax with.
