You should try making some if you've never had them, they're great.
My recipe's pretty simple, takes about half an hour.
First, put some oil into each divot of a muffin tray. Put it in the oven until smoking hot
Mix 140g plain flour with 4 medium eggs.
Add 200ml milk over some time, keep stirring it in. Should end up with a pourable batter
put in fridge if your oil isn't up to temp.
distribute into pan, this should make about 12
Leave in oven for 20-25 mins, don't open the oven door until you're sure they're done as that can deflate them

Goes well with some sausage and onion gravy, or with a roast dinner

I'm not the guy who originally posted this, but I made some picadillo the other night. If you know your way around a kitchen, it's a super easy dish.

Raisins
White Wine
Spanish olives (green ones with the red pimentos)
Ground beef (your choice)
garlic
onion
tomato paste
canned diced tomatoes (i used ones with chilis, but up to you)
oregano
cumin

Soften the onion, add the garlic, add the ground beef and simmer until it's nice and browned, drain, add chopped raisins and olives and a generous portion of white wine. Add the tomato paste, season with cumin and oregano.

These days it’s crispy pan fried dumplings/gyoza with soy sauce on the side for dipping and a beer.

There is something about it, all the juices from the filling is trapped inside. The outer pasta is both soft and crispy. And that pan fried crispy parts has an incredibly amount of depth of flavor, and gives a nice contrasting texture. And when dipping it in soy sauce, it turns the entire thing into this savory bomb.

And for some reason, pairing it with a beer just works incredibly well.

there's a recipe in Charles Phan's book "Vietnamese Home Cooking" for "Mama's Meatballs". A little different from typical Vietnamese meatballs, no fish sauce or lime, but lots of onions/shallots. But it's the meat sauce bro, vegetarian stir fry sauce and ketchup. Sounds weird, but fuck me if those meatballs over rice aren't the best thing I've ever eaten in my life. also the leftovers are even better than the fresh batch because the sauce starts to congeal, so you can make a sloppy Joe Bahn mi with sliced cucumber, cilantro, shredded carrot, vegetarian mayo. fuck I might have to make a batch right now

Honestly this is pretty hard because I grew up being a picky eater, but so far into my young adulthood my tastes have grown/matured radically.
It's a tie between potato soup or sushi. Potato soup is near and dear because I grew up poor, so sometimes I was eating soup for a good week or so. I didn't really care, because it was fucking amazing to eat every time I had some.
Sushi is good because I like fish and rice, it's light on my stomach, and I can go different ways about it. Sometimes I was a crispy, tempura, fat person roll. Some other days I want plain 'ol nigiris.
Favorite dessert will always be chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.

I thought about this for approximately an hour so that I could give as genuine an answer as possible.

At the end of the day, my favorite food is hamburger helper. I can eat it by itself, but I especially like it with a can of green beans or peas, and a can of Pillsbury Southern Homestyle biscuits -- not the "layers". A slice of Nature's Own bread with Country Crock spreadable margarine is an acceptable substitute.

As for homemade food: a pot of Great Northern white beans with a ham bone, jalapenos, and onion. Jalapeno hushpuppies or jalapeno cheddar cornbread, raw red onion, and green tomato relish and/or chow chow relish as sides. Again, bread with margarine is an acceptable substitute for the starch.

My favorite ingredient is cabbage. I love that shit in stir fries, egg rolls, pot stickers, ramen, kim chi, etc. Not a huge fan of cabbage sauteed in butter or bacon grease, though. I'd rather have it boiled with butter.
