People used to smoke anywhere and everywhere, long after we knew it was bad for us. Blanket indoor smoking bans only really started spreading around the 90s. It wasn't uncommon for most businesses to have licensed ashtrays and matchbooks lying around on the tables for customer use.

Shit, I remember when I was in trade school, there had to have been a constant cloud of smoke in every classroom because of all the fucking chainsmoking going on. The same school building is still in use, and I've been back a couple of times over the years for refresher courses. It's hilarious seeing some of the guys just fucking beeline for the smoking areas whenever it's break time. Times have changed, but people fucking haven't.

It was more like 14 years here. I remember the meme community college I went to for like 8 months had a smoking lounge in the basement of the main building. When we went out drinking at bars we could just walk all over the place with a cigarette in our mouth no problem.

That said I finally quit for good 6 years ago and I don't miss it or regret it one bit. Being in your early 20s with a dick that doesn't work all that great isn't fun, same with all the other health problems it gives you. I used to work at a Walmart distribution center, and the smoking break room was sort of like this. It was more or less a small greenhouse within the main building, and holy fuck did it stink. It was like a thousand 1980's bingo halls and indoor flea-markets were funneling their stench into a 30'x30' room.

Fuck I almost miss the times when you could buy just about anything with product placement on it.
