In one comic the toothpick no longer fastened the sandwich, so he used a hand drill to make a hole and stick a frankfurter through it

I know people who eat ridiculously large sandwiches. Not that cartoonish but my buddy regularly eats sandwiches about half as tall as his face. What you usually do is squish it tight so it's flattened and you can eat the top half first.

I always thought he gave his wife too much freedom. Gotta keep a woman like that on a tighter leash.

it’s was based on f. scott fitzgerald’s hair, the sides of dagwood’s hair are just falling comically exaggeratedly out of place.

When I first read these comics in my local newspaper as a kid, I thought “Blondie” was Dagwood since most of the comics revolved around him. I didn’t know Blondie was the wife.

Specially since the comic is barely about it. Really funny history of Blondie, started off as Blondie being a floosy and Dagwood being the son of a rich railroad company. They ended up getting married, which was so outragouse at the time that it literally made front page news across country and people where literally outraged and protested over the marrage. People considered Blondie a whore and the idea of anyone marrying her was the most taboo thing anyone could think of. Then the comic slowly started to switch to what we have now of a very middle class American life style.
