What's your opinion on mollusks? Me personally? Love eating raw oysters and claims. Won't go near escargot though.

I like fried oysters, and steamed clams, clam linguine but not a fan of eating oysters raw. Knowing that they are alive kinda freaks me out. It’s a psychological thing.

If it makes you feel any better, apparently they die almost immediately after you separate their shell since their heart is located right next to the bottom adductor muscle, meaning if you tear their shell in half, they either die or begin dying.

I think eating them raw is a waste because they have so much more flavor cooked.

>> No.14750098

I enjoy raw oysters, but I'm careful where I eat them. Had a bad experience when I was a stomach-let at 13. Never had a bad one since. Baked, breaded clams are beautiful with a silky lemony sauce. Mussels in a garlic and white wine sauce is one of my damn favorites. Or cioppino. I had cioppino for the first time a few years back, served with this buttered and toasted sourdough and I nearly cried. (Okay, I cried.)

do you not realize that a guy shucking it right in front of you has nothing to do with vibrio bacteria being present?

and that a guy shucking multiple oysters with the same tool actually increases the odds of cross contamination and ensuing infection to an almost 100% certainty?

Right with you on fresh oysters and fried clams, also a big fan of squid, but I dislike the steak style of squid as well as the "babies", I want the small tentacles fried and breaded with a strongly spicy aioli.

In Norcal somewhere near Petaluma there's this place you can get extremely fresh oysters, a fat cat who begs for oysters lives there, his name is oyster and he moves between Heftychonk and Megachonker depending on the time of year.

they don't have a central nervous system

you could shoot an actual livestock animal with one, through it on the grill, and it would writhe just the same. it's just epithelial tissue contracting due to the heat even though they can't even detect heat because they don't even have the evolved nerves that would allow that.

they're fine, but I love cephalopods and won't ever eat them. escargot tasted like clam to me. I'm from boston so I've eaten a lot of clam chowder in my life. they're also really healthy, and great for vegans/vegetarians as they are about as sentient as plants (at least mussels and oysters are, to the knowledge provided by the best of current scientific data) and fill in nutritional gaps that a plant-based diet tends to provide.

Pretty sure he means hog island. Not him but I used to frequent the area, take 1 south from tomales near Dillon's beach and a few miles down you'll see the oyster stand on the right with lots of picnic tables. If you try taking 1 north from golden gate it takes forever but it's a good drive if theres no traffic or you're on a motorcycle. Best oysters in CA youd have to go to Mexico or Oregon for better.
