You do know it's not required to support factory farms to eat animals. Nah, I tried being vegetarian for a few years. I was sick as a dog, hospitalized for kidney infection, and couldn't donate blood due to iron being too low. Also got my only ever cavity during that time (this was on top of issues with overeating and never feeling full, suicidal depression, and other common issues that come with animal abstinence). The only time I really feel better is either when I eat mostly animal products (like 80%) or fast.

My body really, really can't digest most plants.

This might blow your typical zealous vegans mind but I really don't see myself or humanity above animals in any sense outside of subjective. We rely on animals just like any predator relies on their prey, without them we are absolutely fucked. I don't think it's fun to slaughter animals, quite the opposite, I hate it.

But if I'm gonna eat meat, I might as well do it right and carry the burden of taking a sentient creatures only life on my conscious. I give my animals the best life I can, and give it's live a greater meaning than both itself and myself through topsoil restoration, and I don't sell the meat. The thing about the animals needing land is that this land is generally unsuited for crops, or sometimes is even RUINED by crop production. Sometimes grazing herds are even hired by conservationists to help heal land that is so overgrown by weeds that wildlife cannot graze on them.

I came to the conclusion that ultimately what is causing our environmental crisis is our massive influx of consumerism over the last century. Like, you are screaming about animal ag, which only in it's modern, hyper industrial form is destructive and unsustainable (which can also be said for crop ag), meanwhile people have funko pop collections that could fill 20 landfills and wont ever biodegrade.

The issue is consumerism and a lack of productivity. The reason people are starving in 3rd world countries is because the lazy assholes in 1st world countries are stealing their land in the form of financial transactions in the supermarket.

I grow my own food, with a persistent goal of independence from as much of the supermarket as possible, so no, I don't eat cashews. I am growing hazelnuts, and have black walnuts.

I already grow a good percentage of my ducks feed, with the end goal to grow even more next spring, as well as get geese, which eat 90% of its diet in pasture. Goats need less water than soy. All this crazy shit I'm learning that I would have never learned if I just blindly believed everything vegans said. Most vegans I talk to don't know the first thing about livestock. You would think if you loved something you'd want to be close to it and learn as much about it as possible. But what do I know, I'm just a duck murdering femanon.

My neighbor has a man made pond, and this year the wild ducks that normally would eat his duckweed didn't show up this year so I got a pretty good amount of duckweed which my ducks absolutely loved. I plan on making ponds in the future for a variety of uses and the ducks are hopefully going to help manage some of them. Seeing my ducks in a swale or pond would make me really happy, I love seeing the ducks splash in their pools.
