These architectural choices are deliberate. They have been a consistent theme for the past several decades. The goal is to turn everything into an undifferentiated mess of steel, concrete, and glass cubes so that everywhere looks the same and no matter where you run you face these same monoliths. This doesn't just happen to fast food joints, it happens to literally everything. It's a form of ritual humiliation. The cubes of Saturn will be everywhere, there is no escape. They do it partly BECAUSE it pisses you off. Because it crushes your spirit. They seek to deprive your life of any beauty. They sell it as sleek, but really what they're doing is removing any and all ornamentation. Because ornamentation is designed to uplift your spirit and is thus antithetical to their goals. You'll resist less if your spirit is crushed.

It is absolutely the purpose. If you're surrounded by beauty and artistic monuments, you're likely to develop some kind of local pride and identity. They can't have that. They want everywhere to be the same. They want everyone mushed together into an undifferentiated mass of humanity - with them different and at the top. If there is an uplifting example of old architecture in an area they're targeting they will attempt to acquire it and tear it down. Or they'll attempt to burn it down (example: European cathedral arson). Or, maybe they'll just surround that building with taller, ugly cube type buildings. It's not just on purpose, this is a sustained deliberate campaign of oppression.

You're missing the point entirely. Simplifying everything into easily digestible morsels is the stuff of fools. If something changes in your own life, do you ignore the reason why? If you begin dressing differently, if you don a new haircut, if you find yourself in the company of new friends... do you ignore the fact that something prompted these changes? Can you really say "well I guess things just change over time and that's just how it goes"? If you honestly answer yes, then I can safely say you are ignorant to the world around you and lack a basic sense of agency. Every sentient person can trace the changes over their life in a very cause and effect manner.

The same can be said about the world evolving around you. What prompts these changes in architecture? The brutalist architecture movement originally began in the 1950's as an attack on earlier forms of architecture. Its entire purpose was to destroy traditional aesthetics - still true at its core to this day. To ignore its origins and attribute the changes to a wane in nostalgia, one must either be a true, unthinking NPC or an untrustworthy liar knowingly spreading disinformation.

Mcdonalds in my area look nothing like this. Today they basically use an AI to decide what to display on the menu based off what is trending at that specific McDonalds.

It is hard to find images of a non cropped version of the menu online but pic related is basically what it looks like. They still serve the full menu, but if you want an item that no one else is ordering, chances are that it'll be hidden. This is why I typically check the menu on the website before I go to order.
