If you had to choose between an Instant Pot and a Dutch Oven to use for cooking, which one would you pick?

>> No.14564071

Ive had both an LC dutch oven and an InstanPot for years I would choose the DO easily.

Dutch oven, but I already have a pressure cooker. If you don't have either go ahead and get the instant pot. But a Dutch oven can be a beautiful tool that you'll use for the rest of your life, and leave for your children. The instant pot will break in a few years.

Dutch oven. If it can be cooked, it can be cooked in a dutch oven.

Even if that green Le Creuset wasn't 3 times the price of the baby toy on the right, I'd go with the dutch oven every day of the week. It's not even in the same ballpark.

If I lived in an RV or something, Instant Pot. I don't though, so I'll take the enameled cast iron dutch oven please. If I had my choice between an instant pot and a non-enameled dutch oven, I'd take the instant pot.

Instant pot. You can remove the inner pan, put a lid on, throw it in the oven, and it’s a poor man’s dutch oven. Conversely though, dutch ovens cannot pressure cook, even in a poor man’s way.

The discussion is kind of stupid, though — just get both. Use the Dutch oven for braising and non-pressure cooking and use the Instant Pot for pressure cooking and slow cooking (yes it can do that too). Personally I have both.

Lmao they're from Portland or maybe Seattle I can't remember now. The story is a meme too, Dave's brother makes the bread and he pimped Dave's story for profit but then Dave couldn't handle the pressure and had a nervous breakdown and relapsed into recidivism and stole an SUV and led cops on a high speed chase before crashing it and is in prison rn. His brother is still free and still pimping his story to sell essentially commercial grade regular ass sliced bread at a premium.

I couldn't care less about the back story. I hate Killer Mike's because it's the most bland and mediocre "premium" and "healthy" bread they sell in grocery stores, and yet they somehow charge more than all the other dozen much better brands.

You'd probably be better off spending the money on a dozen steaks over the course of a month and dialing in your technique. If you absolutely need one, go for it, it's why I didn't completely shit on it. Reverse sear gets you a pretty similar steak with less set up. You can spend a decent chunk of change on a good temp probe alarm to make it a little more fool proof, and the probe will have many more uses than a water circulator. Good for roasts, birds, or if you ever want to get into BBQ.

It's not guesswork if you know what you're doing. Touch, feel, smell. If you can't tell when a steak is done with your 5 senses that's a sign that you need more practice. It's literally the simplest thing someone can cook but cooklet spergs do all sorts of mental gymnastics in place of simple observation, practice, and technique. Like look ball up your hand into a fist and poke the meaty part of your palm connected to your thumb. That's medium rare. You don't need to poke and prod and bake a steak.

If you can't properly comprehend the discussion going on, you don't belong doling out critique. The post I responded to basically said he was too dumb to cook steak properly. A probe is absolutely an aid for doneness, especially if you don't have the feel. I don't use a probe because I can +/- the time in the pan and don't feel like breaking it out. And it's not the only, or maybe even best, method, but reverse searing makes a wonderful steak and it's getting kind of old having the faggots on this board who don't have any taste higher than Taco Bell talking about shit that's out of their league.

So teach him the proper way. Short cuts and "hacks" are for faggots who can't make it. It's literally a fag enabler for bums. Might as well used canned beans too while you're at it and boxes of stock too! And then act super superior about your half assed methods as if it makes you the accomplished cook you pretend to be. Do you realize how fucking retarded you sound? Do you think spoons are a crutch and you should be mixing pots with a cupped hand? Yes, if you've cooked steaks for a while you don't need a thermometer every time, but there is no better way to calibrate your "feel" than to use a thermapen for a while. You'll know exactly what doneness things are in the pan, then you can see how much carryover cooking happens before you slice. Sometimes you even get a wonky piece of meat and just having that insurance to check it if you aren't sure saves you from fucking up the steak. If you ever decide to cook a good thick butcher steak, like a 1.5-2" porterhouse, that poking shit goes out the window unless you work in a steakhouse and cook them all the time to get the feel for those, because they respond totally differently than the 0.5-1" grocery store steaks.
