Russian food is truly the best food

It is simple, almost every recipe is only 5 to 6 ingredients. Everything can be made fresh from actual produce and whole foods. Contains alot of probiotics and pickled foods which is good for gut health.

As a mexican American who would eat only spicy foods or fat greasy garbage, russian food has repaired my bowel problems and I am no longer lactose intolerant.

I eat ukha, borsch, kraut and kolbassa, salad olivier, blin, butter brod, potatoes, grilled/baked meats and usually chase it down with kefir or a glass of milk and I feel better than ever.

Russian food doesn't get the respect it deserves. Best thing is it is really inexpensive and keeps the seasoning to a minimum. Just salt, pepper, dill, parsley, and bay leaf. I dont need a whole cupboard of spices and herbs like I do when it comes to chinese, japanese, French, Mediterranean, and Italian cooking.

Borsch and ukha, both can be made in 20 minutes, potatoes, carrots, dill, bay leaf, onions, garlic, and fish for ukha, or beets and beef/pork for borsch. Usually make it when I get home from work, leave soup to simmer while I shower and it tastes damn good.

For me, it's the McChicken. The best fast food sandwich. I even ask for extra McChicken sauce packets and the staff is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.

One time I asked for McChicken sauce packets and they gave me three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly McDonald's worker laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!".

Now the staff greets me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS give me three packets. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local McDonald's restaurant, I go there at least 3 times a week for lunch and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I'm in a rush but want a great meal that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs.

I even dip my fries in McChicken sauce, it's delicious! What a great restaurant.

I even have my own version that mixes Borsch with Gulasch and I got a lot of Russian approval for it.
No matter how much I make it won't last long and it is fucking delicious.

I honestly prefer east-german cuisine. Russian is better for large feasts but east-german one is just the right combination of cheap, fast and filling foods with heavy russian and german influence.

That's a shame, Mexican cuisine (when did good) is high level in terms of flavour

In a average Italian house you cannot find more than oregano, basil, parsley and salt.

I lived in Russia for a very short period of time and while russiann cuisine don't use a lot of spices it taste overall bland or not noteworthy at most.
I think the difference is not using spices and in the same time don't bring out the food umami.

In the end It Is really an underwhelming cuisine, with occasionally some good dishes

Whole fish is actually pretty easy to prepare if you practice on a fillet or two before hand, traditionally you use fresh caught fish, but I just buy white fish fillets from my supermarket and it tastes pretty good

Maybe I shouldn't have lumped japanese in with that group but, when it comes to japanese food, the problem is that theres too many barriers to making authentic japanese food. Some things are easily available, like miso paste, soy sauce, panko, tofu, etc. But others are harder to find or outright just veeeery expensive, such as aburage, natto, konbu, shiso leaves, benishoga, real wasabi, shichimi, and bonito flakes. Not too mention the countless fish that is almost impossible to find if you dont live on the coast.

It is awesome and that soup broke several ppl's diet.

As meats I use some beef but also pig belly with skin for the flavor.

Obviously you start seasoning the beets to your liking,

Plant stuff in this are also onions, 2 bellpeppers, 2 carrots, a good chunk of ginger 2 cloves of garlic, bay leaf and some juniper berries and a few potatoes.

Seasoning: Salt pepper mild mustard and brown sugar

You can make a veggie broth yourself or use powder.

First goes the beets and a few carrots with all the meat until it is browned a bit, drown it in a the better half of a liter of dry redwine and add the cubed potatoes.

Let that cook for about 2 hours and then add the remaining veggies and let that cook for another hour.

And use Paprika powder.


You can serve it with sour cream.

It might sound a bit weird but believe me, everyone who ate that soup loved it.

A lot of times our dishes are underrated while there is some extremly good stuff.

In northern Germany there is a thing called ''Matjes Brötchen'' and it is just salted pickled hering on a bun with some letuce and onions on top.
Sounds simple but it tastes awesome.

Calm down dude, these are also foods that I learned from russians so I put it in that group. Chorizo and brautwurst is different from kolbassa, and bologna is different from doctor sausage, the type of butter/cheese/ bread, may share similarities but they're prepared differently or have diffeent ingredients.

Pancakes are different from blin or crepes, russian mayo uses sunflower seed oil, black rye bread is different from regular rye. Even russian farmers cheese/ sour cream has a different texture from the american variation.
